So i attempted timing belt change with a Buddy of mine we got down toto it and could not get crank pulley to unbolt. Not to mention get it to stop spinning. Anyhow I'm going up to port Charlotte his Buddy has a shop wet can use the power tools. Just curious what is your guys secret? How do u get it to stop spinning and break it lose? I didn't trust the starter trick seems risky.

Use an air impact hammer to properly break it loose. Alternatively you can have a friend hold the brake pedal with it in 5th gear and try a breaker bar on it, though Im not sure the suspension or drivetrain can handle the torque.
The starter trick is how I do it instead of using an air impact hammer. Just brace a lug wrench or 3/4" drive socket and breaker bar against the ground so it stays on the crank pulley bolt. Make sure its on the bolt tight because you wouldnt want to risk damaging the head of the bolt. Crank the starter very briefly. If you think about it the starter applies more torque to the crankshaft than a human with a breaker bar, but it does it on the side of the engine that is inconveniently freely spinning. If you just barely blip the starter with the ignition it will absolutely break the bolt loose and everything will be great, but if it fails the wrench/socket will simply fall off.

Before I had a garage and air tools I had to this in my carport. I ended up getting a Ryobi cordless impact gun at home depot for $99 bucks. Had to buy the battery/charger as they were sold separately but all in all I think I spent around $180ish. I remember they also had a corded dewalt that would probably get it off aswell for about the same price.

I've got a corded impace wrench I picked up at a local pawn shop for $20.00 that worked like a dream. It's my favorite place when I need a socket or wrench of some type that's not already in the tool box.

I've also done the ground and starter method, it works fine.
