Ok so I gave up on the 5sfe build and bought a beams red top. It should be here within a week. My question is what advice or fun stories does anyone have on doing the swap into an st204?

The 5S has two engine hooks- one on the driver side of the head, one on the passenger side. The BEAMS only has the driver side hook. You'll need to switch the other one over. You'll need to repin a few wires and either extend the harness or cut a new hole in the firewall. The TPS will likely be broken during shipping. Did you get the stock intake and the B pipe? Both are fairly important to have but not critical. Otherwise, it's a fairly straightforward swap.

Pictures of the engine? Good luck!

awesome, just make sure you have all pieces, and service the engine before going in. I regret that and now i have to change clutch and timing belt...

Nice one. smile.gif

As the others said, it's a fairly straightforward swap, but it's worth doing some maintenance first. I replaced the clutch, timing belt and thermostat, and also had the flywheel machined.

I was disappointed with the power when I first drove mine, but now I'm loving it. More power would be good though!

Check out my build thread for more info.

service is optional lol - as the old saying goes... "IT'S A TOYOTA FOR CRYING OUT LOUD"
But in all seriousness if you knew for sure how many miles were on the car that would be one thing.
In this case i think the T-belt would be good. Lithiatoyotaparts.com - cost you about 80$. In the 5s, if the t-belt breaks, who gives a crap because the motor is non interference.
IN the beams, if the T-Belt breaks, you just smashed valves. Good luck getting parts.
The clutch I also agree on. I skipped this too temporarily because the car will never be a DD, so I'll replace as I go, but if it's a DD, the last thing you want to do is drop the motor in, hook up the axles, fuel lines, etc etc, and then have a car with a clutch that has a busted spring... Time to do it all over again.

Back to what Richee said, the motor does only have 1 hook. I got around this by changing the motor differently than everyone else usually does. I drop it out the bottom instead of out the top. But you'll still have to hold the motor up in order to mount the subframe to it that way.... so you better follow his instructions on this, if you read his thread, you'll find that his car has had many a BEAMS in the bay #experienced.

Exhaust will be a pain. Be prepared to fork over $$ to have a custom exhaust made. even if you have the down-pipe, you'll hate yourself if you put a 2" exhaust on it. Go 2.5" and save yourself all kinds of headaches. They just don't run right on 2".

Congrats! It's a lot of fun to rev over 7,200 rpm. smile.gif

Not much really. Bought some rims, window tint, and a few other cosmetics for my white covertible. Since I have two extra 5SFE (one out of the white convert and one in my black parts car) and one in my hatch, I'm getting the itch to build a 5SFTE. I also going to buy a Apexi AFC Neo and coil-overs when I get my taxes.
