This is very frustrating. The engine is Gen3 3sgte, tons of mods, aftermarket ecu, etc, etc. I finally got it running, but once it starts it jumps up to 4k rpm, which is very unsafe on a new engine, not to mention dangerously unsafe without it being tuned yet. All I have is the base fuel and ignition maps and I haven't adjusted any of the fuel or ignition values. The engine could blow revving up this high, so I only start it long enough to see what it idles at, but it immediately jumps to 4k rpm, so I shut it off immediately.

What i've checked so far... I've plugged every vacuum hose and looked for cracks (even though cracks wouldn't make it rev this high). I've plugged the IACV and shut it off in the aftermarket ecu. I checked all of the threaded holes that were used as mounts to make sure they don't go to the inside of the manifold. I even adjusted the idle screw down completely so the TB butterfly is closed completely. I pulled the hose off of the turbo by the TB. I am not letting it run longer than a couple seconds when I start it just for safety.

This leads me to a few possibilities, cracked intake manifold (even though I checked that a long time ago), something between the manifold and the head preventing the gasket from being flush. A leak in the TB butterfly spring assembly, or TPS assembly.

I'm going to borrow an air compressor from a friend and force air into it through a vacuum hose to see if I can hear where the leak is.

If any of you guys have any ideas other than what's mentioned please tell me. Thanks!

I found the problem, the injector vibration insulators leaking. Toyota part number 23291-88480, only available on the Gen3 3sgte. Of course it seems to be the only thing that did not come in my full engine gasket set that I have, but it wouldn't classify as a gasket I guess. I'm glad my intake mani isn't cracked, or warped.

It actually seems like maybe it wasn't bolted down all the way. Like it wasn't lined up when it was bolted down and allowed a ton of air to flow in. BUT I have lost one now, and I've been turning my truck inside-out trying to find it. It sucks, I'm hoping it will show up. Luckily there is a place nearby with a ton of different sizes of o-rings and rubber grommets and other things, I'm sure I can find something there. I'm really kicking myself for losing one though. I found a russian website to order it (different language, and I don't trust my card number on russian websites), and I also found a place to get them from Japan (10 day wait).

I don't know, everyone said that US users wouldn't have pictures. I'm in Hawaii, so maybe I'm an exception smile.gif

Maybe..(speculating)..since they would have to manually block IP address ranges for US computers, they could have just blocked the mainland US IP address ranges and neglected Hawaii's networks. Don't say too much about it though, I don't want to lose it smile.gif . Just PM if you need a screenshot of something. When I see 808joey again I'll ask him if he has access to the pictures, maybe I'm just a fluke in the system.

I found (and fixed) the problem. As some of you know I have a Gen3 n/a head outfitted with turbo internals (still have the gen3 turbo fuel rail). The differences are very minor and I thought I found them all. BUT there is a difference in the fuel rails between the two engines. I didn't think it was a difference in the fuel rail since it bolted into the head perfectly, but the injector seats in the head are shaped differently. After I removed the injector vibration insulators and put an o-ring around each fuel rail seat the vacuum leak was gone. I also put m8x1.25 studs in the head to help me line up the fuel rail better.

So i've fixed the problem, AND simultaneously discovered a way to put 540cc injectors on a 3sge head smile.gif

To have the pictures on ToyoDIY, you need to be a registered user on their website. Do it, it takes only 1 minute and you have acces to all the diagrams. Really useful!
