Ok, so I thought my caliper was stuck because I have grinding in the rear driver side brake setup.. also there is excess rust I thought was due to brake dust. Now that I was thinking I thought I changed the caliper already I could be wrong. Yesterday, after a test drive I didn't feel any heat from that wheel wheel which makes me think maybe the grinding is from something else. All the brakes are noisy but I assume it's from sitting and rust building up. The brake pedal does need to be pushed pretty far down so I know bleeding the brakes is where to start but what else should I look for? Could it all be from lake of use and rust building up? I'm guessing a good cleaning and inspection of brakes along with bleeding is what I'll be looking into now but is there anything else to look for?
Also any does anyone recommend products to clean rust and to lubricate the brakes? -------------------- |

could be a collapsed brake hose. You will know if this is it when you go ahead and bleed the brakes. It will not have pressure behind it when the person steps on the brakes and it will just dribble down the bleeder. Happened to my sisters stratus....booo to dodge.

I would check the rear wheel bearing for play, bleed the brakes, check brake lines for leaks, check pads/rotors for excessive wear. See if you can pinpoint the grinding noise, can you replicate it while on jack stands by spinning that tire/rotor?
As for cleaning rust and lubrication. A good wire brush or wire wheel will help with rust along with brake cleaner. For lube you can try Sil Glyde brake lube, worked wonders when i rebuilt all 4 calipers. |
