It's been a while since I've posted here, but I've been very busy working etc.

After my car broke down, it will need some repair and I was thinking of buying some aftermarket performance parts for my 3SGE.
I don't have much knowledge about engines overall, so I got a few questions if you don't mind rolleyes.gif


Since I've been driving without sufficient oil pressure, I was thinking to replace it with the 3SGTE pump but does it fit?

(I know I mostly should ignore ebay parts, but just throwing it out here)


Next upgrade should be the camshafts. Not sure how to go with the duration and the lift.
Red somewhere that I shouldn't go any further than 270/270° and 10,5mm lift without upgrading to an aftermarket ecu.
While upgrading the cams I need to do the valves, valve springs and valve seals as well. Can I use parts that are made for the GTE model?

Will it make any difference from the stock one?

Same question with forged pistons (found here: http://realstreetperformance.com/store/cp-...-2-0l-269.html)
As an NA engine it has higher compression ratio than the GTE engine, but the link says it fits for both 3SGE and 3SGTE, so I'm kinda lost here.

Any input will be much appreciated!

If you've been driving with low oil pressure it's pretty likely you've trashed the bearings and possibly crank. That engine might be circling the drain already.

Waiting for my mechanic to have a look at the engine to give me a verdict of the damage I've done.
The number one most important thing I've learned from this is that the oil light in the dash is not oil level but oil pressure tongue.gif

First off the 3S-GE & 3S-GTE oil pump are the same part, so there wont be any gains there

The usual questions, how much money have you got to spent on the build? And what is your power goal? What is the car going to be used for DD, DD with track, solely track?
I'd recommend if you could, getting a base dyno done first and making sure everything is up to factory spec spark plugs leads filters etc

Then doing the intake & catback exhaust, CAB or CAI over a SRI

I noticed after my first dyno, power started peaking off. Did the above, allowing the engine to breath a lot easier high rpm.
So would I recommend camshafts straight away. No. However if you really want cams going for the biggest is not the best route sometimes. You need to ask yourself how much are you willing to lose down low rpm? so with that around a 22#deg @ 1mm valve lift is good if you need to stick with the factory ecu. Also yes aftermarket GTE valves & springs and camgears can be used

The HKS Header Type II, has been discontinued for a while now, you can buy second hand though. However the factory extractors are still good and gains can be made by porting them.

The piston link doesn't work btw. I searched a few years ago with regards for 3S-GE pistons, and from memory there was a german company who made HC Gen 3 3S-GE pistons. Otherwise its going custom spec on 3S-GTE pistons. Just make sure you're not buying 4thGen beams pistons as they are a bit special.


For ECU. I recommend haltech platinum sport 1000 controls all & uses the factory sensors and ACIS. Have a look at the install video's of it on youtube.
For cams. Kelford cams, yes they are a NZ company, but are very well know and are a high quality. they also produced more power than another camshaft company with the same duration and lift.
Another area to look at Flywheel, lighten the factory one or look at aftermarket.
