So my buddy ripped off all plug wires and not one at a time. Tried hookinng them up as looking down on engine 1234 then match on the cap. Does not work. If i do it as 4321 it works?

the distributor cap should indicate the firing order on it. and I believe it's 1-3-4-2 starting from bottom left and going clockwise.

You don't need to know the firing order. You just match up the numbers from left to right with what's printed on the distributor cap. 1234. easy stuff.
Then make sure the middle wire on the distributor cap is going to your coil.
