I am putting work into my 97 1.8. This car is a little heavy but the handle is amazing. The motor build I'm going for is real basic n/a build w/ headers, intake, cold air intake, mount batterie in the trunk for better air flow.
Does anyone else that went this route for fun, know how this little motor handles it? Redline caps at 5,700 so Motor isn't a beast. Any input will be useful thanks!

97 ST limited RIGHT HERE! lol.
yeah, the ST is light and great to throw around. I'm half way done building it, i think...
yup, got intake , header, strut bars, coilovers, and a few other goodies. still want to relocate my battery to the trunk and do my exhaust. if not, I've been itching for a 3sgte swap.

Same here as Cheela lol, but an upstate NY car. Definitely a nice light weight sporty car even with a 7A in it. I've done headers, exhaust and intake, gotta say the motor holds up to them very well. My input, go with a 2.25" exhaust from the cat, however if you get the chance to duct your intake line from outside the engine bay try and go that route. I have been looking at relocating the battery as well, summit has a good kit for it. Keep us posted on the progress.

Spend the money on suspension instead, will be a better use of money than dumping money into a measly economy engine.

Same here but i am fixing it up to stock and then will add header/intake/exhaust etc slowly but surely. I had oil-burning issue so I rebuild the engine, essentially complete head rebuild and new rings plus all new bearings. Runs fine now but still uses a little bit of oil.

One other modification i did to keep the oil temp low as these run hot is to add thermostatic control sandwich adapter and an oil cooler. I posted it in this session a while back. So far the difference I have seen is that the oil remains clean but I only have one oil change on it since the install.
