Hello all,

I have a 97 Celica ST with the 7afe all original and stock.

My transmissions just started acting up on me.
It pops out of 3rd gear every now and then.
Only pops out when I go to shift into it. If i don't shift a bit harder, it will pop right back out.
Other than that, it doesn't randomly pop out.

Is this a common issue with the C54 transmissions?
Is this synchros going bad?
I have read somewhere that its the shift forks?

I have checked my shift bushings on the transmission and one was bored out a bit. i replaced both bearings and still same issue.
i have not yet checked my shifter assembly to see if that may be the cause.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Didn't see the first time around. It's a common issue for the third gear synchronizer to go out. At minimal it only grinds when downshifting, and at other end it starts to pop out or will stop going in. Have you changed the gear oil in it? If not new oil may help. Make sure to use GL-4 as GL-5 is corrosive to yellow metals. Some have had luck with using SynchroMesh.

Thanks Box. I have tried flushing out the Trans fluid but not with synchromesh.
Sometimes it just does not want to go into gear unless I slam it in hard.
Usually when it does not go in, it will sound like it is barely touching gears. (Small grinding)
