hey everyone, I have just upgraded my ride from a '90 GTS to a '94 GTS. I have some simple mods to the car, but now I want to upgrade the headunit and I want to install a tablet (Samsung tab 4 7.0). Has anyone done one yet and if so what is required other than some triming of the console?

If you aren't proficent in android programming, making everything work properly will be difficult, both finding the code/app and get it working. The tab 4 is a great tablet, but as a HU it won't do much. are you planning on sinking your head unit back an inch to mount the tablet? I also planned on doing it, but didn't have the time to get it working the way I wanted

yes, I was going to make the unit flush. I know I need to shave a bit of the cover and fabricate a mounting bracket, but other than that, I don't know much else.

Before you waste a bunch of money think about reliability. Android products fail in comparison to alpine/Kenwood/pioneer head units. I don't know a single tablet that still works like new 5 years later but CD players is a total different story. Just buy a higher end double din off eBay and call it a day I paid 150$ for my pioneer 3700bhs off eBay and it works 100% perfect and will for a long time.

Most of the slow down with tablets and phones is due to browsing the Internet and updating software. I know iPads that are still running almost flawlessly. If you picked up an iPad mini 1 at bestbuy for 199 and jailbroke it to do whatever you wanted, it would probably last a while

My iPhones always slowed done on me. Hell my 3gs doesn't even work anymore. My iPhone 5s after I jailbroke it froze non stop so I went android and root. But apple/android will end up freezing and lagging at some point.

Problem with Apple products is that they never use their own internals. As for using a tablet vs. double din, is that I want to be different. I don't want the same thing that everyone else has. Where I am, I am lucky if I see another st204/205 within a year. They are becoming rare so I want to do things different.

Have you looked at the Alpine iLX-007?

I'm due for an iphone upgrade and was thinking about getting one. I'd like to see some more reviews before I plunk down that much money though.

I have looked at all the double din decks, and most are for Apple. I WON'T do Apple. And as I have said I want to be a little different than what most people do.
