I saw this article on Autoblog and it had this video of the new Focus RS, and I thought it was amazing! It looks like they design a drift car that's comfortable enough to ride around the city when you don't want all out drift.

One issue with the car... you guessed it... it's a Ford. Lol. I have never been a fan of a Ford at all. I think it's basically ford's version of a wrx hatch. Now if honda would've made that car everyone would be all over it. Haha.

I did make a post about miata. Ford did own some of mazda but as far as I can tell ford didn't help design the miata. I personally don't like American made cars. But if I had to choose American it'd be GM. That focus does seem kinda cool but again it's a Ford. The integra and rsx where out whenever the focus hatch was on the first need for speed underground game. Idk about you but I never seen anyone choose the focus haha. Plus think about whenever that switch that controls the driving ever goes bad. . That's going to be one costly repair...

It was Mazda that shared things with Ford. Mostly in the way of engines, but cars like the Probe were more or less a reconfigured MX-6 and the Mercury Capri convertible was the scrapped FWD version of the Miata. Really the only Fords I like are from the 70's and back with exception to the Mustang, but the same could be said about GM and Dodge with the exceptions of the Camaro and Corvette and then the Challenger and Viper. Of course that's how it is with any of them these days though.

So your saying you wouldn't enjoy a japanese influenced, german built, rally inspired American drift car? Shouganai

If it had two doors and a manual I could give it a go.

To me the Focus is like the Dodge Neon, it's more of a typical compact economy car and then they put a nice motor and a wing on it. Whereas the Celica for example is a sports car from the chasis up, the geometry and aerodynamics make it bad ass even with a small motor.
My experience in engineering school has given me new insight to the American car problem. Most of the kids in this program are doing well not because they are smarter but because their parents have enough money that they dont need to work while they're in school, which is a Huge advantage because this program is every bit of 60-80 hours of work a week. And if you're a regular guy who needs to work while in school you are at a serious disadvantage and that is why so many people don't make it, not because they arent smart enough. And so many of the engineers who come out of the system and go on to work for American auto makers are rich kids who've had everything handed to them their whole life and just aren't really as smart as they think they are. They don't have that problem in Germany or Japan.
For example, if some of you remember I told you that the kids on the Baja SAE team laughed at me when I suggested that they change the oil, they thought that was the stupidest thing they'd ever heard. One of them went to work for Peterbilt, the another moved to Detroit and went to work for Ford...

I would however take a GT40, if you gave it to me. smile.gif

Don't know about long term reliability but I'd take one. I've driven the Focus ST and it was a blast.

I think its an excellent option for those that don't like the STi or Evo. 350 hp is plenty to make the car fun as hell. Ford is doing a whole lot more for enthusiasts than Toyota is, so hopefully Toyota takes the hint and offers something that packs a little more punch than the FRS but costs less than $50k.

Exterior is not there for me, although subjective. Front end is typical "let's make the front grille as big as possible" crap like everyone else. I'll wait until re-sale dips and get one for a winter beater. Though, I do give Ford props for building this thing. I live a few miles from a Ford dealership so I plan on going to take one for a spin just for fun!

If you could order one clad more like a standard Focus or Focus ST I'd be more interested. I like quick cars that don't look like quick cars, no need to advertise to all the idiots who then think they'll beat me in a race on the highway or start driving like idiots when they see me. De-badge and swap the wing would be done before the car was a week old laugh.gif

I've seen it at the Auto Show last year. Looks promising, has potential, but what I'm concerned about is its long term reliability.

Not that I'll be able to afford one any time soon....$35,000 car and I make that much in a year, would be looking at like $500 a month car payments. That's not happening for a while  I'd rather pick one up in the used market around 20,000 with about 20,000-30,000 miles on it assuming they prove to be reliable cars.

For what they cost I wonder how well it'll do. The kind of people that buy that kind of vehicle are probably already into Subarus or Audis, and the kind of person that'll spend that on a Ford probably would opt for the Mustang GT that starts $3,000 lower.
