I'm planning on running 2 qts of redline mt90 and then top the rest with pennzoil synchromesh. This is for my s54 nonlsd mated to a gen4 3sgte. You guys think this is a good mix?

I don't know if they call for the same type but I've been using only Synchromesh for three years/23,000 miles, shifts just fine in a C52.
Edit: I should add that the trans I swapped in reportedly had a crunchy third, yet I haven't experienced it in my use. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Jul 4, 2016 - 9:49 PM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Why expensive synthetic oil only to mix with mineral oil? Here are some mineral oil alternatives that're GL-4: https://www.amazon.com/CRC-SL24229-GL-4-Mul...BZ1R2VP0ZB9P45N
https://www.amazon.com/Sta-Lube-SL24239-GL-...QTCFSHAZ51Z9ZNB https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bpo-023-7729/overview/ Which I used the Brad Penn in my Celica with some SynchroMesh, in a 66.66%/33.33% mix like you're talking about. Made a good improvement in shift feel and quietened the 3rd gear synchro. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Mine has no problems with shifting or crunchy synchronizers, I am running 2.7 qts of Lucas Synthetic gear oil.
Interestingly enough I was running a mix of regular gear oil and synchromesh before my old tranny failed. But it already had a crunchy 3rd gear before I even got it. -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

Just remembered Amsoil makes a synthetic synchromesh, so if you wanted to run the RedLine and keep it all synthetic that'd be an option: http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/tran.../?code=MTFQT-EA

The thing is I already ordered 3 qts of mt90. Lol. Is it best to just use all mt90?

Since you already have 3 quarts of the RedLine I'd give that a go first, can always go back and siphon out a quart if you want to try adding SynchroMesh later.

Well the switchover was ok. Only thing was when cold mt90 doesn't work so good. I'll get my old 3rd gear grind when cold then it'll be fine once warmed up. High rpm shifts are still a lil notch but not as notch as before.

Could try doing the SynchroMesh as it's more or less 5W-30 in weight and would thin out the oil which would help when cold.
