3s swap, got a quote Options

A local shop told me they'd do the 3sgte 2nd gen swap to my car with the auto to manual swap and everything installed for $4500. How does that sound?

Since the tranny needs to be taken out any ways, its not much more work to swap the actual shifter.

good deal, esp with trans swap, id ask for some credentials though and see if you can get some info from previous customers, after the mess coomer and ray have gone through, i donno how much i trust "good deals from good shops" anymore

Whatever you do, get a contract in writing. Otherwise you could end up like me with a destroyed Celica after half of a year of waiting.

Better make a good diary of this, I wanna see how it goes because I'm in the same boat as far as ST - Auto goes.. and I'd love to see another member complete it (I think someone else already did it with an ST - Auto, not sure).

there is more labor with the ST --> 3SGTE swap by far. Engine mounts, basically the whole drivetrain is being replaced. And an auto --> manual conversion? Sell the car and start with a GT. Do a straight motor drop for $750 and you're done (well, then there's wiring).

$4500 for an Auto ST --> Manual 3SGTE I guess is alright. But I'd get it in writing that it ain't going over that and that it's getting done within a certain time frame. They are going to run into a hundred little unforseen issues that are going to swallow up time and money and they're going to try and pass that off on you.

if that price is parts and labor it sounds good to me.. but do make sure that you get everthing in writting and signed buy you and the shop.

$4500 in labour alone just for that swap can be reasonable. It's about 8hrs book time i believe to re and re that engine. so go from there $96cdn/hr = $768. Never mind changing it from automatic to standard. You have to take out the old shifter make new mounts for it and then cut the inner console so that the shifter will fit up. cutting a hole to put the clutch pedal and then doing all the rewiring for that. It's more then what you think it is. It's not just quick slap bam i'm done. I can gurantee that this swap will confuse many tech's. the mechanical work will be no problem. it's the wiring harness itself that will stump.

What hole for the clutch pedal? Are you talking about the cable?

I would go to a junk yard or source these parts and have them ready for him to do. The faster its done the cheaper its done.

i would like to know the same, im starting now, but by getting info, an sourcing parts, so far its gunna be about just 2600 for the clip an then i need to gte tha wireing done, an thats what another 400

Is there a such thing (or is it possible), for an Automatic 3s-gte? Not that I'd prefer that, but it seems a lot cheaper and easier when you're coming from an ST.

How does it seem easier and cheaper coming from a ST to do an automatic ST?

I would think its harder or maybe the same as just doing a Manual 3SGTE with a GT.

If they are going to do the automatic to manual swap with the 3SGTE swap $4500 then go for it because it sound pretty cheap.

Also its including parts right? because they are getting the parts for the manual swap too which is cool...you know since you got to basically change your gear box.

Yea, that's turn key, but I have about six hundred dollers ahead of the swap for maintenance and lowering, so, it's a long way ahead.
