I’ve recently decided it would be in my best interest for what I’m wanting is to swap the 5s out. Luckily I’ll get a little more life out of it so I can take my time and build the new motor. (Sweetheart only has 256,000 miles) but my question was has anyone swapped the 3sgte out of a 98-02 Caldina into ours? Mine is a 1995, I’ve searched for months now and cant get an exact answer. I’ve got a killer price on one and thought it might be worth it. Thanks ahead for your guys’ time.

Several people have done 4th gen swaps. Search for 4th gen 3S-GTE instead of Caldina and you’ll find better info. For starters, you’ll need harness work from MR220V and a FMIC and the rest of the swap is similar to any other 3S swap.

I’ve searched and searched man. I’ve extensively researched the initial swap. But yeah, all I can find are ones for caldinas. I mean a 3s is a 3s right?

I just can’t find any 3s’ that aren’t from a caldina. That and it’s a killer price. I just wasn’t sure if it made a difference I mean a 3s should be a 3s to a certain extent right? I know there is changes in generation to generation. And time and knowledge isn’t really an issue. 2 guys at my shop are swapping machines. My main concern I guess is the wiring harness. I’ve swapped exact motors. But never OBD1 to OBD2 or US to JDM.

The answer is simple, and if you REALLY researched, you would know who MR220V (Doug at Wiregap) is.

You buy your engine, with a complete caldina harness.

Send your current engine harness, along with the new COMPLETE caldina harness to Doug.

Get your swap harness back, plug and play.

I was looking for confirmation. And you guys have given me that so thank you. And as far as REALLY researching the answer is simple. I have, for about 6-7 months now. Just because I didn’t know about doug was doesn’t mean I didn’t research bud. But I can tell you’ve I’ve logged atleast 100 hours in research. Thanks for your time though. Just don’t be condescending man.

when i decided to swap a 2grfe into my celica. I researched, because I knew no one had done it before. That did not stop me.

If you swap an engine, please get a common sense of the wiring. At least its my belief. the wiring on any 3sgte is a joke compared to the wiring and startup of a 2gr engine. I did it with no prior experience. I am not a mechanic, or an engineer. Just a lot of research. almost 120 wires in my harness.

If i have an electrical gremlin, " I KNOW" where to look. but thats just me.

get the wiring books and diagrams, and study them, if you can read a map, should be no problem.

4th gen swaps are pretty common now. Having a complete harness is key. My 3rd gen swap was a breeze, no extension just a couple wires to solder and drive away with the wind.

If your guys are good with what they do, find them a wiring diagram and they'll finish the job. Otherwise contact Wiregap.
