Whats up people??? I have a question for everyone here. What do you think gives better performance when you do a custom 2.25 piping... A single muffler? or a dual muffler? Of course if you buy a full catback exhaust like the greddy SP for our GTs and STs you will get the best performance.

Not true. If you go custom 2.25" mandrel bent you can get the same exact gains for cheaper.

To run dual piping and NOT mess up performance, you will need to calculate how small to make your exhaust pipes to keep that 2.25" total, but then also take into account the increased surface area of running a Y in the exhaust system to dual mufflers. That, and take into account that exhaust gasses prefer to go down the least restrictive/easiest to find path. So, it will be easier and more beneficial to run a single-muff setup, unless you have some physics knowledge and a good calculator.

What don't you understand? wink.gif

I advise that you just go with a single muffler.

i just dont understand how if you have 2.25" piping that if you have more than that going out, it will hinder performance? and all this surface stuff? who knew exhaust was so hard? get bigger pipes, more gasses can exit, bam your done...

its all about conservation of momentum... if you increase the sectional area, velocity will decrease, pressure increases... This is why a 3" piping for a N/A setup is a bad idea.

I like layman's terms, but surprisingly I understood all the stuff he said.

more important: exhaust gas velocity.

Thanks for the insightful input everyone. My first posting in the forum. Well I had a dual cannister DTM Tsudo muffler with a custom 2.25 exhaust piping on my celi and recently got into a accident when some dude hit me from behind. So my exhaust was all bent down and it just looked nasty. Piping was all messed up underneath the car but my back fender jus got a few scratchings. I look at the guy's 96 altima who hit me from behind and his front end was all smashed up to the point where his car was smoking from the engine. I was amazed how my fender was merely scratch and bruised. I guess my exhaust took most of the impact. Anyways to make a long story short.... I got money from his insurance and i bought myself a brand new black universal APEX N1 muffler and got a new magnoflow catalystic converter with the 2.25 piping with a 18" resonator to keep the sound to a purr. WOW!!!!What a difference this muffler makes. No more bubbling or gargling noises and no more droneing in the passenger area. I loved my DTM Tsudo but after some time it jus got louder and louder to the point where I was actually losing power. With this new apex I actually feel a little better response and it sounds very clean with the resonator on. less backpressure probably. So i got lucky by getting a new exhaust set up from the accident. Thanks!!!!!!
