so after all of that trouble in my other thread I have figured out 3 things:
1.) one or both of my stock amps are blown or for some reason unknown to me not sending out power signals 2.) My head units CD portion is messed up (kenwood kdc-217, been through 3 cars now about time it died) 3.) If you buy a new car do not get any kind of sound upgrade because it makes it a million times harder to go aftermarket! So today I am going to walmart and picking up a new pioneer 4600mp (i think thats what its called) and just wiring my door 6.5 pioneer and the stock 6.5's in the back. I have never wired a car like this before I have always used stock wiring but since I have no clue where the problem is with the stock wiring I have decided to go around it. What gauge wire should I buy? For the fronts I was thinking about wiring the wires under the steering wheel in the back then for the door through that little plastic wire tube and for the rear up and through the top plastic pods. for the passenger seat same thing except under the glove box. anyone see any problems with this? also what should I do for power, should I just splice into the ciggarette lighters power and I assume the one thats not positive on the lighter is negative and that would be my ground? Thanks all for your help in hte other thread and now in this one ![]() |

Ah, Man. Thats a Shame your so far away cause I would help you out.
Personaly for me I would Goto Home Depot and they sell I think its 12g Monster Cable for 44cents a Foot, and its 2 wires one labed (+) and one labeled (-) makes things easyer. If you are going to run a Amp you really should run a direct line from the battery and find a nice ground. If you need help Im around check out the profile. DTE -------------------- I am a thief.
do not buy anything from me. |

Good luck with that, it's a bas*ard to do. TIP: Find an old metal coat hanger (or piece of stiff wire) and thread that through the plastic tube carefully. Then attach your speaker wires and slowly but carefully pull them through. Rear wires I threaded behind glove box/steering column and then down and under the black plastic door sills.
For the head unit that should work fine. (I'm assuming that youu're not going to splice into the original OEM harness). MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE AN INLINE FUSE ON THE POSITIVE WIRE. However, if you add an amp do exactly what Clipsetuner said:
I'll just emphasize that it MUST BE a NICE/GOOD GROUND. This post has been edited by 3TST: Mar 20, 2004 - 6:03 PM |

ok I need to find a constant power source to run the memory wire to, it is my belief that the ciggarette lighter only works with the ignition?
how can i run directly to the battery, we could not find a whole in my firewall? also everything is running fine, I bought the pioneer 6600 and i am using pioneer 3 ways for the front and the stock 6.5s for the back. the 4" and tweeters arent working as of now in the door, but thats ok it sounds amazing compared to ... nothing ![]() thanks all for all the help , now I just need to find a constant power so that my cd player doesnt lose all its memory each time i turn the car on and off. -Brian |

Ideally that should be off the positive side of the battery WITH AN INLINE FUSE connected.
OK, here's what I did, or at least I'll try and explain... I needed to run 2 wires from the positive side of the battery, 1 = MEM, 2 - AMP (both with inline fuses) so I needed to go through the firewall. Well, when you're standing in front of the car with the hood up, go round to the passenger side wing and look down the back of the firewall. You should see a rubber boot with a black cable going through... loads of room to put 2 wires through and comes out behind the glove box. You'll need to remove your glove box to properly feed your speakers wires through so do this at the same time. |

I bought a new head unit and some 14g speaker wire and I rewired the 6.5 pioneers I put in the door (8 inch woofers blew) and the 6.5's stock in the rear. Then I ran power from the fuse box for the power for the head unit and I ran a wire from the battery for the memory of te head unit. And I grounded it to the chassis behind the head unit area. Took forever but sounds great and atleast I did my own wiring so no more surprises |

8 Guage wire should be sufficient.
Get a clothes hanger, feed it from the door to the inside of your car via the plastic tubing.. push it in gently wiggling it around a bit so u dont grab any other wire. Than tape up your speaker wires to the end of the clothes hanger and pull the hanger slowly out... Simple.
Run the guaged wire from your battery to the rear... put an inline fuse closest to the battery. Run the wire along side your drivers side door under the foot step. Run your ground to a nice bolt or something closest to the rear of your car, make sure to sand it down to metal. Than run your amp turn on from your pwr antenna or amp turn on (depending if ur using an aftermarket HU) |
