I've got some crazy wheel hop when I launch. I don't spin too much, cuz my tires are nice (Eagle F1s GS-D3) but I hop like a muthafacka. i was wondering what I can do to fix this? I hear a front sway bar helps, that true?

i think sway bars stiffen the frame, not affecting the tires unless ur making hard turns at high speeds.

ur "jump" start also depends on what kind of surface ur tires are gripping on. sometimes the paint from crosswalks are slilppery tongue.gif

it also depends how you are startig off, like are you revving an poping the clutch, cause theres not much you can do to stop that. or is it justing to take off quick. the biggest thing is the size of the wheel, and type of tire. you could try getting an lsd, that should help, but would be kinda expensive.

Wheel hop is caused by compliance in the suspension. Arms flex and bend, but most importantly, on a stock car, the rubber bushings deflect and cause the suspension to load up and release energy alternately. This is wheel hop. Good shocks will help a little, but to really eliminate the problem you really have to have stiffer bushings or some sort of 'traction arm' that prevents the bushings from being loaded in the longitudinal direction.

Sway bars have 0 effect on wheel hop, they do not even come into play until the car is turning or hitting bumps. You might be thinking of strut bars, as they do stiffen the car some, but the chassis isn't the issue here, the suspension compliance is. Strut bars won't help this problem.

The optimal launch always occurs at about 15% wheel spin. Sidestepping the clutch might prevent wheel hop, but you'll be way outside of the 15% and it will hurt your times.

And, sorry to break it to you, but Goodyear F1s aren't the greatest tire. Try some Falken Azenis Sports on when you wear out those goodyears. They're cheaper, and they're worlds better.

I had the same problem too. I got my new wheels put on yesterday and got some falken tires. my car drives and takes off pretty good now,alot better than before. I just thought I'd share this with you because speedtoe mentions those falken tires.

I don't even really remember what my car's wheel hop was like before my swap, but I think that now it's a whole lot stiffer, mostly due to the solid front motor mount. wink.gif

um... swaybars stiffen the lower portion of the suspension (attach to the endlinks which are generally mounted on the control arm.... which is mounted to the lower portion of the spindle, which is where the strut is mounted.... and for the rear swaybars are directly on the struts themselves)..... strut bars stiffen the frame....

um, you might want to try lower PSI in your front tyres
