I am considering upgrading to the Suspension Techniques sway bars. For those that have them, what are the performance gains versus how much they make the ride punishing. I am trying to strike a balance between improved handling and ride comfort. To illustrate this these are the mods I have chosen (so far):
Performance enhancing: TRD Springs Front Strut Tower Brace Side tower braces Ride comfort: KYB GR2 16" wheels (with 4 inch sidewalls) Thanks for the replies -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

I don't think that they make the ride any different, they just make the car handle better in cornering

They didn't affect my ride quality at all, but I can handle a lot better in corners now. The car has much less body roll.

I'm new to the mod world.. I've got a stock '96 Celica ST 25th Anniv. Where in the line of mods should the sway bars be added? Is TRD the way to go with this upgrade?

swabars really help cornering. As far as i know Suspension techniques is the only company that makes sway bars for our cars. as far as when or where in the line you should do sway bars, my suggestion would be anytime after you lower your car. adam This post has been edited by 98celica3: May 11, 2004 - 12:29 PM -------------------- MISS THE CELI, BUT...

A larger front bar will tighten up the front and allow you to transition faster; however, you are also going to pay for it in a long corner, as your (now) tight front end will be more likely to push out.
Depends on what you want to do with the car. I have the Suspension Techniques front on my car, but am going to switch to the stock ST front bar (19mm vs. 20mm for the stock GT bar), because I spend more time actually in corner than I do turning into it. |

The rear bar I bought from ST did not come with new end links. I wouldn't expect to see any in the full kit either. |

If you wat to help cornering then stiffen the rear up first by anti roll and strut bars and then afterwards stiffen up the front

They all had sway bars stock, there is another post somewhere with stock part numbers, but basically, 96 and newer GT had the stiffest stock bars, all years end links are the same, so for an inexpensive upgrade, you should be able to use the later rear stock bars on a 94-95 if you use the later frame bushings. (the 94-95 Sport suspension package rear bars are the same part no as the stock later GT bars. ) Front GT bars are 20MM dia, I believe ST bars are 19MM? (I hope that makes sense) heres the post with part numbers: post What I would like to know, is whether anyone with a 96 or newer GT has installed the Suspension Techniques bars and how much did they improve handling? i have a 5th gen celica, but i have the whiteline sway bars. they are really nice. for the 6th gen celica, they appear to have 22mm front, 20mm rear. possibly other sizes, i didn't check very in depth. for my car, i got 27mm front, adjustable 20-23mm rear. i like a lot!

I installed my Suspension Techniques front and rear swaybars today. I haven't driven much yet but I can tell the change is pronounced for cornering.
I do have another question though for others who have installed them. I get a hard rubbing sound from the sway bars when I hit bumps. Anyone else have this issue? Did it go away once they were broken in a bit? I am wondering whether they need to be lubed or adjusted in some way.
