I bought some JDM Rear-view mirrors off ebay and they supposivly came off a 96 celica so no problems bolting on. I know this cause they are already on my car. Looks funny too, red mirrors on a black car, very mexican of me.
Anyways, i'm having trouble getting all the wires hooked up and i was wondering if anyone has installed some themselves or had them installed and could tell me what the extra wires that don't match up with the controller go. Thanks Joel |

Are you talkin bout the motorised/ folding door mirrors?
I had to replace one of my mirror units a couple of months ago because the shafts holding the gears in the motorised unit had worn their way through the plastic moulded shaft holders, anyways the replacement I obtained I think had an extra 2 cables and the connector was different. If yours is the same then all you have to do is check that the series of colours on the cables of the old unit match all those on the new unit( with exception of the spare ones). What I did was cut the connector of the old unit (with enough slack cable) and wire it onto the new unit( colours matching). The 2 spare cables can be left trimmed with no connection, and the mirror unit will work with no problems. Note that my car is a JDM GT4 and the mirror unit was from a later model 6 gen celica. But I believe the colour coding is pretty much standard across the board... |

Yea it's the motorized mirrors.
Even with the extra wires clipped does your mirror fold in when you push the fold button or do you even have that? |

Which unit has more wires, in my case: Old unit - 7 wires, red, green, brown, blue, black, yellow, light green Later unit- 5 wires, all above except yellow and light green The later replacement unit has additional "on board" diodes which make redundant the extra 2 wires that the older unit had. Wiring the new unit , colour to colour with the chopped old connector (remember you want the connector to fit the socket in your door)should still allow all the functions to work- mirror movement / folding etc. If there are more than 2 wires spare after colour matching chances are you have another spec mirror unit and you shouldn't follow my advice. I think off memory the spare wires are yellow and light green, hit me with a reply if this sounds right to you, Jon This post has been edited by jontechie: Feb 15, 2003 - 10:03 AM |

I take it you mean you wanna see a pic of the mirrors folded? There's no real difference lookswise between US and JDM except that they fold electrically (am I missing somethin?) Anyways will post pic up if I get a chance on Sunday, Jon |
