Hey everyone.. new the the site.. jsut came across it this weekend. I've got a '96 Celica ST 25th Anniversary and just ordered the parts to do the cold air intake project. Woo hoo!
Anyway, I've been thinking about debadging my car but wondering if it's a bad idea to debadge a 8 year old car now? |

why would it be bad? Do whatever you want. Sometimes it looks cleaner/smoother with no badges.

there will definately be a noticeable mark where the badges were. i've read all kinds of different ways to get them off. people suggest goo gone after you tear the badges off to remove the adhesive. first you'd want to soften the glue with a hairdryer, and try to do it on a really hot day. these are just things i can remember off of the top of my head that i've heard on the boards.
i don't think you will be able to blend the mark that it will leave, usually it's cleaner than the rest of the car because it hasn't been exposed to all the harsh conditions your car has. |

step one- use a HEAT GUN/hairdryer and sit there for a good 10 min heating them up
step two- use something stiff that doesn't scratch your car to get them off step three- GOO GONE and lots and lots and lots and lots of rubbing |

I'm not worried about value.. it's a '96 ST with almost 130K miles on it. So the value isn't a question. The age is the question.. how faded is the paint in relation. The debadging I've known people to do has always been soon after they got their car. Thanks for the tips all!
The real stuff I want to do is in other forums here... cold air intake, GReddy catback, etc. |

i debadged my 94 without any paint mismatching. all i did was heat it with a heat gun, peel them off with a credit card then used rubbing alchol (sp?) to remove the leftover adheasive. i tried goo gone but it wouldnt take off all the leftover adheasive so thats when i tried rubbing alchol.

I did it on my 97. I used a heatgun, and the emblems came off easy. The glue was another story. i have a bunch of chemicals(mek,goo-off,etc) here. I used them all.
After I did it, I could see the emblems through the paint. A buffer and some rubbing compound took care of that problem. I left the toyota emblem in the middle. Looks much cleaner. |

Dentel floss and alcohol, did this to my 96 celica and my coworkers vw 98 I think both had no paint miss match. not much sun hits the trunk there, not much fading, I wouldnt worry especialy on our white cars we are seexxyy

I took off everything except the rear T, I even took off the GT badge, which I kinda regret.

I wouldn't de-badged my car now,
cause it looks good on a stock car. ![]() I think it looks incomplete without the Toyota Emblem on. And the holes in the back don't really do it for me. The previous owner debadged mine. Little paint fade, but only noticable after a wash and wax job. Nothing you can see unless your face is right up there.
