Does anyone else with a convertible have the problem where the contacts inside the switches for the rear windows get charred so they don't work? I've had to clean both switches twice now, and it's getting annoying. Thanks.

I put both switches into one switch, and moved it below my ignition- the little switch clamps under the dash.. the one on the left was meant to be my top- but that had less than happy results. there's metal behind there and the vert switch sticks out to much- so we kept grinding and grinding and then the connect fell out. ****. still haven't fixed it.

I really dont think it's the switches man.. it's the motor. It wouldn't be both switches at once.

I'm not sure if they actually got any slower before they stopped working... They just got kind of intermittent so you had to hit the switch like a million times before the window would go up. What's actually happening is some kind of crud (looks like electrical burns) accumulates on the contacts inside the switch. It's not a hard fix to just take the switches apart and clean the contacts, but you have to be careful not to break any of the plastic parts and it's annoying to pry up the panelling every couple months.
BTW, if you ask a Toyota dealer to do it for you they'll charge $85. It's faster and cheaper to do it yourself if it turns out this is your problem. Hope that helped. |
