Ok, when i brake and turn left or brake and straight ny front end (not sure whether it's right or left... i think it's the left side but i don't know much about this kinda stuff) It's makin this loud clunking noise. It sounds like somethins loose and clunking.grindin' I took everything off and I didn't see anythin visibly wrong so can anyone help? Dont wanna get ass rammed by a mechanic if possible

yah know I have a similar problem i just cant figure out when im drivin along my back end left or right i dont know makes an excessive amount of clunking noise and I dont see anything wrong with it

I have this same problem... I have narrowed it down on my car at least to the top half of the calaipars... I thing either the guide pins are bad or the bushings have wrapped/worn out..I will replace them some time here and will post if it fixes it

Yes, me too
The noise in the trunk of my car is so ****ing loud!!
But my frd told me that is the normal problem of some 4 years or more car....
Cos every parts (Interior) in our car will be loosed for such a long time, may be the sub-woofer sound...etc...

ummm.... interior peices shouldn't make clunking noises... I dont car how loose they are

Well it's really loud when i turn and break or when i break it's there but not toooo loud and when ur drivin once in a while it sounds like somethings loose but I can't find ne thing wrong... PLEASE HELP!!!

i think its a warpped rotor...i just ordered some C & S rotors they should be here in a few.....i'll let you know

i got the clunking in mine too. Mine occured when the struts had to come out when i uprated them to the KYB's. I'm thinking that it's the springs not sitting properly.

As for the clicking on the brakes, this is a common problem on the celica's where the pads do not sit 100% properly in the calipers.

most of the time clunking from the rear is just the little rubber sway bar bushings that mount the sway bar to the body. They cost about 4$ each and take abotu 5mins to swap out. (mine didnt look bad but they were).

Clunking/grinding noises from the front end WHILE TURNING is probably your CV joints. Look at the outer boots on your drive axles and see if they are busted open.

Lift up the car around the loud area. Spin/wiggle the wheel by hand and listen/feel. It could be the calipers, rotor, or worst, the wheel bearings. The bearings can cause clicking/clunking/howling and/or vibration. Calipers and rotors usually squeak and grind... just hope it's the sway bushings like bufferdan says...

on a side note... when my car was clicking and rattling... all I had to do was tighten my jack and it quit rattling... ;]

usually this problem is associated with the spring binding then releasing on the top or bottom of the pearches. try greasing the spring pearchs and see if it goes away.


haha and yes, as kwanza noted, if you have bad rattles from the passanger rear, make sure your emergency jack is tight.

ummm... maybe I'm miss reading this.. but that sounds like a bad idea to me.. the perches are there for a reason.. to keep the spring in place.. wouldnt greasing them make them pop out? causing the spring to become misaligned?

Thing that could potentially make things worse

i had a problem with clunkin. i looked and oh yay 3 of my lug nut studs broke off. i got all of them repalced and it all was kosher. i dunno celicas break sometimes.

Had the same problem with my car. Replaced my axles and I've had no problems with it since. Get your CV joints and boots checked, and look for grease buildup on the inside or spokes of your wheels. If the boot is busted, then more than likely the grease has been throw out, causing your CV joints to become less lubricated and pop when you turn. If that's the case, I would just go ahead and replace both axles. It's a day's work if you know what you're doing.

Hey Delta, where could I go about orderin all that axles, and cv joints and boots or what would you recomend. I've got the $ to get it fixed but I wanna know it's gonna be fixed. Know what I mean?

I got my axles from Advance Auto Parts and used the Haynes repair manual. I had no prior experience of replacing axles and everything went smooth with no problems. The most difficult part about replacing the axles is removing the old ones. It took me and 2 other guys and a rope to get them pulled out. Just go up to Advance or AutoZone or any other parts store and get them ordered. Also order the transmission seals because they're special order and will probably take 2-3 days to get to the store. The seals set me back a day when I was replacing them because they gave me the wrong ones. I wound up going to some rinky dink parts store that has a lot of stuff in stock, and they were able to give me the correct seals. The old seals are also tricky to get out. I had to pry them out VERY CAREFULLY with a flathead screwdriver. To get the new ones in, find something round that will fit around the edge of the seal, and just use a hammer to tap it in. Also use a hammer to get the new axles in, it shouldn't take much more than a few light taps on the end to get it to snap into the tranny. After you get them in, give them a tug to make sure they're secure and just bolt everything back together, throw your wheels on, and that's it. If you have access to any air tools, GET THEM. If I hadn't had one, I probably would have killed myself.

If you're planning on letting a mechanic do it, then all you will need to do is buy new axles (or halfshafts as they're most likely called at the parts stores). They will already have the CV joints and boots. Also make sure you save your old axles because you can take them back to the store to get your core charge back. I didn't really go into great detail about it, but if you need any more pointers let me know. Get the Haynes manual while you're there if you don't already have it. I didn't really have to use it when I did my axles since it's a pretty straightforward project, but it will still help out.

lol i had the same problem with my car when i first bought it, geez with all these suggestions i'd drive me nuts! well the solution to myne was BRING it to a mechanic fortunately myne was still under warranty so it didnt cost a dime. wink.gif it turns out that my ball bearings were all out of whack and has shattered i got the clucking nosie when i turned left coz of the weight going to the right wheel and also when braking. hope this helps you out good luck! - rideeeeeeeee selik
