Hey everyone, I found a 96 GT for sale today that sounds pretty nice but I'm reluctant to call on it bc it has 135k miles. I know toyotas will run and run, but could this be a good car for the next 5 years of college? What kind of maintainence will it need?

ya id imagine the guy just drove it to like work or school or something and put a TON of miles on it... but that doesnt mean he trashed it at all... test drive it and make sure he did the usual maintinence stuff. as long as you dont use it constantly, id imagine with college itd be parked quite a bit so just as long as you dont bash on it and it hasnt been driven into the ground by the previous owner it should last you through college just fine!

135k isn't too bad. these cars will run forever as long as they are maintained properly. maintenance is key. have a trusted mechanic check it out, and see what he says. I would be most worried about the valve seals and the synchros but who knows what else could potentially go wrong.
good luck. |

yeah I know Toyotas will run and run, my friend had an 89 Tacoma with 165k on it and we couldn't get it to die even with no oil (his dad was gonna buy him a new car when the truck died). I think I'll call on the Celica tomorrow and try to take a look at it, and if it's in good shape then take it to my mechanic, and if it's a piece...then screw them I can find another one.

I bought my 96 with around 140,000 on it i think.
I only paid 6500 for it, which in my eyes was way too much since it had hail damage and the rear fender is dented in as fuk. Plus the clutch was almost dust when i got it. |
