Try resetting your ECU........theres a how-to on doing this here.......this should help even out your throttle. If not, you might wanna get it checked out or something.

Check your engine bay, if it looks too clean to be true it may have been
steam cleaned before you bought it, you may have to put up with the erratic idle for a month or so.... |

The engine bay is very clean - this could be it!

it depends on some stuff.
Try the reset and see. Drive the car normal and drive it the way you would like it to be driven and let see what happens over a day so. -------------------- West_Minist

I have that same problem with my '94 Celica GT. From a stop, if I try to accelerate, the engine sometimes won't respond right away. So I let off the gas and try to accelerate again and it gets going or it moves after a moment without having to let off the gas. Just a couple days ago I got a tune-up. The spark plugs and wires were replaced.
When I got my car back, I noticed that the idling is worse than before. The "jerking" is rougher and I can't accelerate too hard at the beginning or the engine will not respond. I'm forced to press the gas pedal VERY lightly at first so that I can at least get passed 2000rpm and by then the car seems to run just fine until I get to a stop. |

Your problem seems like an injector problem or MAF problem.
I am not a mechanic, but due to the fact that you have to press the pedal slightly seems very much like the engine is running to rich or to lean. Do you get black smoke when this happens? Another problem could the ignition ignitor or bad ecu. Have you tried resetting your ecu? |

I haven't tried resetting my ecu. I don't notice any smoke when I it happens.
Before the tune-up, sometimes when I turned the key, all I would hear was a "click". I'd have to do a couple or few clicks in a row the get the engine started. Ever since the tune-up, the car sometimes struggles to turn on. By running too rich or lean, do you mean the octane of gas being used? I've been on 87 octane. Thanks for the input. I'll probably have the injectors and the MAF checked if resetting the ECU doesn't help. |

Ok. I see.
It is sound now like an electrical problem. Have your ran through by a Auto Electrician. You alternator if it was going can cause this problem at idle. But you have this at starting. Again, check with a auto electrician. In the mean time, check all ground including faulty battery terminals |
