Ok, so everything seems to mess up on my car at once.
The car's CEL is on. I put it a paper clip in TE1 and E1 and nothing blinked. My car shakes really hard at idle when I first start (Around 10-20 degrees out) The heat guage goes from medium to high really fast. (and then back down) And it smells like it's burning anti-freeze (head gasket??? eeek) This post has been edited by Andason: Dec 27, 2004 - 11:10 PM -------------------- i am awesome

that dosnt sound good.
your ecu is ODBII, meaning u cant do the paper clip check. you have to have somone connect a reader to it. i would get the car towed to a mechanic and not drive it. pop the hood and have a look around. can you see any coolant leaking? come on guys....its a 98 5sfe with about 10,000 miles on it. a headgasket would cause the car to totally overheat. his car, over heats....cools back down....and over heats....cools... sounds like the thermostat is not doing its job at keeping proper engine temps.

Never said it was the headgasket... just a pre-cautionary check. Best thing to do would be to go check those codes... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Low coolent would cause that up, down, up with the cooling also. Its the burning smell that kwanza was worried about. Thats the reason for the oil check. 10,000 miles.... Odds are he threw the code due to over heating cause the coolent was low. I'd hope the stat didn't go bad that soon. -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe

It all depends on the head's condition. Assuming the head was in good shape... it's more than likely because of poor R&R (remove and replace). Bad head bolts or poor torquing... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
