For those with a 5 speed. . ., clutch slippin so... Options

I was wondering if anyone has had their clutches replaced on their 6g celicas, Im just curious on how much it cost you. My mechanic quoted me $600, hes a really good mechanic so he usually charges a lil extra for labor, I was wondering if putting in a new clutch was really that complicated so if I know whether I need a good mechanic or an average mechanic to do it.

I was quoted $300-$400 to install mine, but I might take it over to my grandpa's house to have him help me put it in. I heard that it's not incredibly tough to put in, and my grandpa has fixed up engines and cars his whole life and said that he'd help me with it.

$600 dollars seems a little steep, an ST/GT clutch over here is about
£120 ($180) and 2 hrs labour should cover the job. Don't know what
your guy charges per hour but I would think Coomers figures would be
more accurate.No real technical difficulties involved, clutch pedal may
have to be readjusted afterwards.If your happy with your regular
mechanic and you know the job will be done properly, go with it but
I would get a second quote as I'm tight like that!

labor for my clutch was $300 and the A.C.T stage 2 racing clutch was $380. so if ur gonna replace ur clutch i would get a racing clutch due to the fact that a stage 2 is only like 20-30 bucks more then a stage 1 which is practically stock.

Thanks for the replies, Im gonna call around on Monday and try to get it done this week. *btw he said since its a inline 4 or something its a little more work to do the clutch since he has to take the whole engine out or something like that*

no due to it being an inline 4 he has to take off ur 1 wheel and most of ur suspension to get to ur tranny then take ur trann out then get to ur clutch.......if u want to wait a couple more days i have a sponsor from A.C.T for clutches see how much they will sell me clutches for and i will get back to u all

well...i was qouted 6-700 from toyo, so...i would assume thats a little high?

700 is thee highest..dont go no higher....

I paid $280 (Canadian) for an oem clutch and did it myself

Just got my Car back a few days ago, cost me about $650, I know it was a little high, but he is a very thorough mechanic who checks out for future problems while he has the car apart, and at this moment my 94 baby is in tip top shape, boy does a new clutch make a world of difference, feels so much faster,least right after I shift from 1st to 2nd and such.

mine i got done for like 250 dollars with work and a new clutch... but my dad is an auto wholesailer and i got the clutch from him and one of my good friends is a good mechanic.... he said it took him about 6 hours of work so except a good fee....
