Really wierd problem. Options

Ok so I'm on my way to work last night and leaving my hood I run over some ice/snow, still about 6 inches in spots. And well I scrape a little and my lights dim and then go back to normal. Well when this happened my radio went out, my gauges, my powerlocks/windows, turnsignals, wipers, heat, mirrors and everything electrical inside my car stoped working except for my lights, and hazards. So I'm thinking I blew a fuse of some sort, but which one? I have an alarm installed that also does not work anymore. I pulled and checked some of the fuses in the fuse panel and the ones I pulled looked ok, is there a main fuse or something somewhere?

There are fuses under the hood too......im not too sure exactly what fuse you blew but you might find it under there? My friends celi wouldnt start because he blew a fuse under the hood.....give it a check

Ok, Ill try that out, any idea where they are at under the hood?

Also would my hazards and lights be on a different fuse? Because they still work and all my interior lighting still works fine. But my turns don't work.

the panel under the hood is on the drivers side above the wheel. if you have a multimeter use it to check the fuses. sometimes you can't tell they are bad.

Ok so I found the fuse that was blown, it was a 40 amp fuse inside the car. But when I replace it, it is fine till I turn the key then it blows again. And now I have a new problem the battery is no longer charging at all, any ideas? Apperently my car has gremelins all the sudden!

Check all your wires you removed while doing your swap, sounds like you might have put one in the wrong place.

You mean the interior wires? or the exterior wires?

Both, if you removed them doing the swap. You probably have two wires in the wrong places somewhere.

Also check for any wires that are down around the bottom of the car where the ice might have scraped them bare and are making your car short out.

Yea the second part is what I'm thinking is what happened. Because it blew the fuse when I drove over some snow and it scraped a little.

But are there wires even down there, from what I saw almost all my wires run from the top of the firewall.

You definatly have a grounded wire or crossed wire......i bet it probably is something that became exposed when you hit the ice, and now its grounding itself to the body somewhere

Ok, well today it stopped blowing fuses for about 3 hours, all the wiring is hooked up properly I almost positive I have something grounding on the frame somewhere. But I just don't know where. I didn't do anything to the car it just started working today, and then stopped 3 hours later. Im going nuts with this.

How many fuses have you blown and which ones? Was the car running, driving, or just turning the key on at the time? Did this start right after your swap or how long have you driven it since the swap? Did you get the ECU or whatever it was you were asking questions on the other day hooked up right? Gotta give us as many details as you can.

I checked my wrecked car since most of the front is removed, I don't see anything that should have gotten damaged by ice on the ground.

I'm thinking maybe you have a wire that is somewhere on the car from your swap that is in a pich point or rubbing something.

You are more than welcome to drive down some day and check out both my cars if you need to check the wiring on yours. The 94 is a manual and the 95 is an auto, so you have both to look at if needed.

Cool thanks gas. My uncle is a toyota mechanic and he said that my harness is probably got a short somewhere and it is grounding on something. I just wish he was here he would have it fixed in no time, he is the bomb used to work on porsche's and ferraris.

Ok well I drove it for a week before this happened. I never changed out the ECU. I keep blowing the #15 fuse in the toyota manual its a 40 amp fuse on the inside of the car top right green fuse, according to the manual it is the electronic ignition fuse. I can replace the fuse and turn the key to accessory, everything works like it should, but when I turn it to on the fuse will blow. If the fuse is blown the car starts fine and all but it won't charge the battery. On the swap there is only 3 wires on the tranny, the main fat plug that has the neutral safety switch that you bypass, the reverse lights plug, and the speedo plug plus 2 ground wires. We did find 1 ground wire that was not attached and we attached that but a ground is not going to short out.

Your about an hour and 15 minutes away depending on what part of Louisville your in.

I pulled the 40 amp fuse(AM1) off my car and it controls all your accessories not your ignition. Here is what quit working that I know is still hooked up to my factory wiring when I removed that fuse.

Turn signals
power mirrors
power windows
heater/ac fan
sunroof
stereo

My ignition worked fine and my altenator seemed to be working.

Your charging system is not working because one of these accessories is probably shorting out the car.I would look for a wire that is caught between something or pinched.I would also check up under the dash since you had to install the clutch pedal, you might have messed something up down there.If you had to drill a hole in the firewall, make sure the metal shavings are not shorting something down by all those wire clips.

Did you remove the motor and tranny while doing the swap or just the tranny? I would go over all the wires one by one and also have a relative or friend go over it also and look for cut, bare, or pinched wires.

Yup that is the fuse, I was just going off of what the toyota shop manual says the fuse is.

Yup those are the things that are not working. Were your gauges working still, speedo/rpm? I just removed the tranny nothing else. Your alternator does work but it won't charge the battery without that fuse being in there. It sends out voltage but you go to test it at the battery and it won't be charging. I'm gonna check under the dash and see if I can find anything, I did have to drill for the clutch and stuff but I did this about 3 months ago I installed the brackets and stuff. If I can't find anything I'm just gonna go to this electrical engineer today, that my dad gave me the number too and see if he can find it. He is supposed to be really good.

Ok so I mess with my car a little bit I disconnect the hazard lights, the clock and put a fuse back in and it works. The day that I blew the fuse is when I hooked the hazard switch back up and the clock back up. It may have something do do with that or it may be the passenger side power windows. Because with the fuse in and it not blowing the passenger side window does not work, on either switches.
