What would be a better head swap for a 7a block gte or gze set up according to performance and cost wise.

you mean the head off a 4agze (supercharger) or the head off a 4age then turbo it like Frotou
cost i would say are close but turbo 7age i think would be more power just depends on how you do your set (pistons rods etc) -------------------- yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

It's the old supercharged vs. turbocharged question ehh? It's opinion...

or you can do this
swap a 4agze if you want supercharger or swap 3sgte for a turbo swaping heads you still have to alot of wiring just take the next step -------------------- yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

To say a bit more... the supercharged set-up will be easier... you basically adapt the GZE set-up... but it has limits. The S12 supercharger isn't all that and its peak performance is only about 12 psi... after that, it gets really inefficient. A turbo set-up is a bit more complex. There's some custom stuff involved along with more tuning and maintence needs. It has much better power potential depending on the turbo. Regardless... I hope you're aware of the wiring requirements of a 7AG hybrid. If you have the skills or the money to do it... go for it. If not, back to the drawing board...
Oh... and the 7A's weak spot is the rods. Gotta do something about those rods if you plan on big power. This post has been edited by Kwanza26: Jan 14, 2005 - 4:06 PM -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Hey Kwanza,
Doesnt the stock 7afe block only handle 8-10 psi only. So the the sc12 should not be the weak point. And from what i have heard, the 7afe head design is good for mild boost applications. |

And from what i have heard, the 7afe head design is good for mild boost applications. First off... the guy is talking about a 7AGE, so the FE head has no meaning here. Second, I didn't say that the S12 supercharger was a weak point. I said it has limits, like most production factory superchargers. Its efficiency after 12 psi is questionable. As for the block, boost limits depends on what parts a person uses and what sort of tuning is done. I never said the 7A block should be limited at certain psi, only that the rods are weak for higher output. The block itself should handle boost so long as the tuning and fuel is right. The main problem with custom turbo set-ups is what I like to call "Boost Greed". Once you're boosted, you always think, "just one more psi is OK, then I'll have (insert horsepower increase) more power and be faster..." That's why people jack things up and go lean and stuff... because they get greedy and do not tune right, set-up the fuel system right, or something along those lines. And yes, the FE heads do respond pretty well to forced induction. The narrow head design makes for some massive torque. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

To repeat myself... it all depends on tuning, parts, and the person. 12 psi has been done with 7AFTE's. It'll actually be safer with a 7AGE set-up because you can use the 4AGZE pistons... but as far as a certain boost pressure goes... again, it all comes down to fuel, upgrades, and tuning. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... To bring a half dead topic up. so you could use, a 4a-ge head, 4a-ge pistons and then get a thicker head gasket and then corolla manifold for turbo, and that would all work? Iv been searching aroudn and no-one has been directly sayign that these will work. Also us 4a-gze rods?

you didnt look very hard this has been talked about for the last 2 years on this board 4ag head works and 4ag/4agze pistons work(edo) and rods are not long enough you need to use 7afe rods because of the block height i'm working on a GB for rods and pistons for the 7afe block. all you need to know -------------------- yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

late responce...
but yes the rods will be weak if u use the 7a's so your best bet if u want this build is all forged rods, pis, val's,cam to make surte it all fits and works proper also take it and have it tuned. if not with these you can kiss the thing good bye and all that for nothing forged internal parts best way to go if you dont want it to mess up by the way im doing a 7afe/4agze engine build its a long project for me but im in no hurry i want it done right and your engine will have a lot of torque with the supercharged but a note you can with proper parts add a turbo to that as well but cost of it is with forged parts. it will cost ya a bit do it right, or dont do it at all |

that is not a bad price for custom pistons & rings. if is stay with the fe head i would only need stock pistons just forged right and maybe .020 over sized, along with the custom rods, i dont want to head swap just yet i am having a fe head p&p and a custom valve job done to increase air flow and volume. i just want to know what is needed for the bottom end to help keep the engine strong.
