Apparently a New York radio station morning show made a parody song about the tsunami that includes racist, disrespectful, and offensive remarks towards its victims.

Go here for the full story. There is also a link up for you to download the song and listen to it.

I'm glad they are getting suspended. I think they should just get FIRED. This is absolutely sickening. I suggest you email or write these people and complain, etc. *sigh*

EDIT: Ok, it seems those links aren't working. You can download the song here.

Update on it: http://www.hiphopmusic.com/archives/000760.html. Sign the petitions..

While I would love to rip them a new one I am wary about the suspension. I dislike infringements on freedom of speech and lately things seem to be getting tighter and tighter.

related news my parents were watching the amazing race on i believe fox, it pissed me off that they actually aired the segment that took place in sri lanka... i couldnt possably watching it knowing that everything there and probably 50%+ of the people in the backround on that show were no longer alive, i was disgusted seeing them air it.

yeah we have song like this in australia, not so bad i think as yours but basicly its saying that australians r selfish and that we never give aid unless it makes us feel good about or selves and we dont care about the victims or something like that.

though this is a terrible thing to say, that our charity is like a fad or osmething , u gotta wander if it realy is coz after the event we have hgad a massive bush fire in western australia and its taken out like hafl the houses and covered the entire city in a deadly smog cloud, and it took our government like 2 weeks to help our own popele coz they were too bussy doing publicity events for asiam which is a f**kin joke, they shuold have treated both problems equaly and not give the international one more prefference just so they can sday hay look australia is giving to the owrld or some shallow political bull crap.

k just my thoughts

the sad thing is charties are a fad. Case and point anytime we have a major event you get tons and tons of chartities. However when it comes to charities for day to day stuff many of the people simple don't bother,.

I haven't listened to the song but I do believe in free speech and I do believe if people in general are sickened by this song that was obviously done to create controversy that they should just not listen to it. Don't think I'm cold hearted because I do feel for those affected by the tsunami and contributed what I could just I believe in free speech and that if the public does not like it they can boycott it.

The most basic component of freedom of expression is the right of freedom of speech. The right to freedom of speech allows individuals to express themselves without interference or constraint by the government. The Supreme Court requires the government to provide substantial justification for the interference with the right of free speech where it attempts to regulate the content of the speech. A less stringent test is applied for content-neutral legislation. The Supreme Court has also recognized that the government may prohibit some speech that may cause a breach of the peace or cause violence. The right to free speech includes other mediums of expression that communicates a message.

NOTICE : government may prohibit some speech that may cause a breach of the peace or cause violence

The right of free speech is often misunderstood

you can't just say whatever you want, it follows certain criteria

i heard about this too with Hot 97, and thats shady how they attacked miss info after airing the song. miss jones needs to get fired quick.

theres free speech yes, but then there is also horribly bad taste and bad humor. you got to draw the line somewhere.

what I want to know is, wheres all the civil rights and anti-racism groups? why no outrage?

oh trust me they are protesting... people out side the NY tri-state area might not know alot of the inside stuff that going on with this and the real reason they did it.. but its all backfired on Hot 97.... they are going to lost a lot of the advertisment... and miss jones and the rest of the morning crew.. well we wont hear them on the morning anymore... pluse since Star and Buck are not back on the air on Power 105.. it was a rap for them anyway..

yes I believe in free speech, yes I believe michael powell has gone too far, but I have no sympathy for miss jones. who in their right mind thinks making light of a disaster that killed hundreds of thousands is funny? please tell me she was on drugs, drunk, or had a mental breakdown, I desperately don't want to believe people of such bad character are even allowed on the airwaves

yeah boosted.. I don't quite get why you're so upset by the Amazing Race. I was actually pissed when they had to reshoot some of spiderman because they didn't want the two towers in there.

What better way to remember things than to have them preserved on film and video- to see how they were before a disaster, and to work towards rebuilding that after?

People may have lost their lives, but if you ignore where or how they lost it

*shrug*

See this whole radio parody thing, got played in my city. An hour after she played it! Well, might add this is why you dont put non educated monkey ass idiots behind the microphone!
If this was the roman times, she would have been dragged through the streets and beaten, and then finaly impalled! Oh well, i hope she gets fired, and never gets a job again!

I think freedom of speech was upheld. There has been no action by any governing body such as the FCC, although i do think the the FCC division that handles Indecency and obscenity should have done something, at least a statement. Everything that is happening is due to pressure from the public and sponsors as well as disregard of the stations own policies.

Not only is the song is tasteless since it makes fun of the hundreds of thousands who died in a disaster, but it also uses racial slurs that are offensive to Asians. And on top of that, they introduce the song by attacking Miss Info when she says she thinks it is offensive to Asians. This is followed by Todd Lynn making the statement "Im going to start shooting Asians." If anything, at least he was fired for making that statement.
