After reading the other times, I figuered I'd make this thread. I know it's probably been done before, I think I even made the last one. But do it anyways. Please just post time with whatever explaination you wish of your times. But please don't post, "I beat I would run...." or "Dizzzzam foo, tight! You so fast!" Let's get done to some tech talk boys.

Myself, nothing great. With a worn clutch I ran 16.6. Sadly, that's my best time, and I've probably raced my race about 20x's at the track. BUT- my rear struts were blown and that just owned by 60 footers. So now that that's fixed, I hope to hit the 16.4 that the 5s celi is suppose to run stock. Sad that that's my goal considering I'm not stock, but eh, whatever. I'm just in it for the fun.

If anyone wants to throw out advice, do that too. Worthwhile, not obvious advice please. Nothing like, "take out ur backseats!" Thank you, this is no one's first day racing.

Also, what are you guys launching at? 4,400rpm here

I heard that's bad on stock engines, I think. Or maybe it was running too much of it. I do run 93 or 94 when I go to the track tho.

14.1 babying the clutch... ive only ran probably 10 passes max, and about 4 of those were during a very windy fall day, so the timing devices kept being tripped by the leaves. im still a newbie at drag racing basically because its not one of my main intrests. im much more involved in autocrossing.

my launch is at 3.5k... like i said... babying the clutch smile.gif obviously a fuller launch w/ a little more practice and 13s easily... any good drag racer could hop in the car and run a solid high 13.

Well, we don't have 1/4 where I live so I'll post my 1/8 mile times.
ST 190000kmiles CAI and full 2 1/4" exhaust
Oh the track is also 60 ft short
Best time was 10.09 on a cold night
On a 75 shot back in Summer I managed a 9.46

yup same here, 14.1 at 97mph in the WRX, except i baby the transmission and do a very soft slip launch on the clutch at 5500rpm(i only pull 2.0 60ft times, i could get 1.6 if i wanted)

that was before i got the utec.

i just installed the wideband setup on my WRX yesterday. i found out at full boost im running a 10.5:1 AFR. gotta pull some fuel out.

A fellow WRX owner? YAY! I just bought myself an '02 and have yet to run it. I am really anxious though. It sucks that we have to be so nice to those trannies, I hate how crappy the gears are. Ah well, its still fun as crap.

WRX trannies are glass. That said, using a WRX tranny is like washing a glass window with a sledgehammer. There are plenty of ways to break it, but when you get really good at it- when u know the glass and the sledgehammer, you can wash the window fast and hard without breaking it.

That probably made no sense.

but anyway, moral of the story, once u get to know ur tranny, u can ride it rough- according to my WRX owner friends who beat the **** out of theirs and never replace it (one's a mechanic)

its not a glass tranny, sure, its the weakest link, but thats only because there is too much traction. high power fwd/rwd cars spin the tires, relieving pressure, a WRX doesnt do that.

i have seen some people light up the tires on a launch every time they race, and their tranny take it.

anubis

didnt your other post say that your wrx had gears? do you know what kind they are?

oh yeah, one more thing about my slow times, i shift very slowly. i dont have the money for a new gear set. as soon as a buy a blown tranny and install new gearset/syncros/bearings in it, i will see what my car is truely capable of in the 1/4. i will activate launch control and floor shift too. 7psi at 5500rpm waiting for the tree to light up, should be fun.

In contrast the MR2 transmission is a freakin ROCK. sure the syncros may go, but you will never ever hear of a MR2 breaking a gear... toyota definatly got something right with that one.

yes it does have upgraded gears but I can't remember where from. I think it might be RA gears since thats the most popular upgrade for them but I will see and let you know.

And actually the gears are pretty well made but they are not strong enough to accomodate a turbo charged AWD car. They are way too weak so in a sense they are pretty much glass trannies. I've seen instances where the transmission eats 2nd gear after 30k miles. 2nd by the way is the most eaten gear from what I've seen, actually its the only one I've seen tongue.gif

thats because it gets eaten when they powershift into 2nd

the RA gearset is a lot stronger than the stock gears, i havent heard of anyone breaking those gears yet.
