good luck with the install! I dont recommend u doing it yourself. U have to take apart the entire back seat, side panels- just to get to the damn motor-remove window parts, etc..

I had same problem -about 3 x!! Both side motors went. I ended up buying them from the junkyard instead of paying a ripoff price off $300.. works fine..for now...the vert top is the only thing on my car that breaks--every summer-the back windows dont move up/down (replaced those stupid motors too)!...

This is an extremely easy repair to do(motor for the top), and one that the dealer will charge you big bucks. Now the side windows on a vert are a different problem, because they are hard to get to. Your also in luck, because I have a few extra motors laying around here. Pm if you are interested.

Do not pick up motors out of the junk yard for the 95-97 verts. ASC used a new model in 1998 because of the problems they had with the first version.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Interesting info Jay; does this mean motors meant for a 98 won't fit a 97?

I would imagine it would fit but I do not know. If I had to guess, if you buy a new motor from Toyota, you will get the upgraded one no matter what year you specify. I bet they do not even have different part numbers.
