i dont know if this right forum but just a little question. Ive had my celica since june, but about two months after i started noticing a little shaking in the steering wheel. I had the fronts balanced and the rest of the stuff checked. It was a little better for a awhile. Then it came back. so anyway i had to rotate my tires, did that and it helped a lot for like two weeks. now it starting to come back again, its better sometimes and worse others. And not always on rough road and smooth road too. So any info about past experiences would help. thanks guys

yeh I've got the shakes as well, had it for a while now. I know that my wheels arn't balanced. I also need a wheel alignment cuz the car pulls to the left. I've just been lazy as all hell to do it.

Do you have the stock wheels and tires on the car or do you have a plus size? With the bigger wheels and smaller sidewalls on your tires, you'll feel the road more pretty much no matter what you do compared to the stock feel. You might also want to check the air pressure in all your tires and make sure they're all about the same.

I had the same problem about a month ago. Check your alignment, wheel balance and if it doesnt help then may be you should try to change your tires. That's what i did.

Yea, I too shake at 65+. I figured it was either a stock problem or my alignment, or my wheels, but I imagine it's a combination of both your wheels and the stock settings not designed for high speeds on an ST ^^.

if the car stops shaking if you let off the gas, 9 outta 10 says it's an axle, my car has had this problem, and it's sittin up on jackstands waitin for a driver's axle. um...it shook in the 30-80mph range, and stopped when i let off the gas...check and see if any of your guys cars do that, then check the axle.

Well it looks like we have an epidemic on our hands, I must add my car to the numbers of this problem.I have all the same problems, and have done all the suggestions on cures for the problem.
IT has got to a point where this repair will be done before any further mods are done.Nothing more frustrating than jumping on the highway and reaching a good speed and having the car shake like s..t. This problem has become more evident after i spent 2500$ on rims&rubber not to mention eibach sportlines. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP! ! ! -------------------- |

im not an expert here, but on my last car the sterrign wheel only shook when i put on the gas, in that case it was the axle and the half shafts going out, you should get it looked at as soon as possible. if it breaks when your driving your tire will lock up and you veer off the side fo the road, i did this going about 115 racing a camaro

I used to work in a service department at a car dealership...so I know a little bit bout this...lemme see if I can post my two cents worth! LOL
If the wheels shakes first thing I think I'd check would be the balance on all four tires. Only thing is, whoever you take it to...ask them to what speed they balance tires. at the dealership I worked at, the computerized balancing machine only balanced to about 72-73 MPH...so if you were over that speed you got the vibration. Second I would check the alignment. if the alignment is off just a degree or so your car can ride horrible. Also, ask the shop you go to about possibility of checking the rear wheel alignment, to make sure everything is ok there. I know our cars are FWD, but it's a possibility something back there on the back end could be wrong and need to be checked. Also, check your wheels. If you have curbed the car *hope not* but if you have, it is a great possibility the overall balance of the wheel is far enough off center, that you can't truly balance the tire. I've seen this happen many times where you can do a close job, but no matter what you do, you can never get the wheels in true balance. Another thing I used to see is where the tires were wore wrong, like the alignment had been off, and the tire got bad wear in it, and it caused vibrations. I've seen that a lot too. Those are probably the cheapest options to try to check. If that doesn't fix it, by all means take your car to someone who deals with suspension problems cuz it's in the suspension for sure. Sorry this post is so long, and it may not be nothing new to you, but it's all I know from workin at the service dept! LOL |

I went for a wheel balance the other day and a wheel alignemt. My wheels are buckled so they said theres no point in balancing them cuz it won't make that much of a difference. Then came my alignment, they couldn't do it because my car was too low and it couldn't get on the hoist.

Hey guys. I have the same problem. Check the tie rod ends(or have them checked), and also the ball joints. It could also be bad struts. I have semi new koni yellows and new tie rods that will hopefully help with the shaking, just havent had time to put them in.
