I bought a short shifter, only the metal thing.
But i can't get it installed I have read Coomers How-to article http://www.6gc.net/index.php?action=howto&itu=62 But i need some clearance on some point. what to do, or i'm i doing it incorrect? QUOTE After removal of the four bolts, there are two metal pieces that slide into place to hold the shift linkage cables in place(Marked in third photo) that need to be removed. To remove these, I took some pliers and gripped these parts with them, and then I pulled up as I pulled side to side to get the metal pieces out of there. This step requires some force, and you may not believe that those pieces come out, but they do come out if you use enough force. I pulled (the purple marked things) towards me: And now pull really hard? or do i have to do this: Pull up these purple marked metal things? i suck This post has been edited by Fietsbel: Mar 19, 2005 - 8:06 AM -------------------- |

They are tough but they will come out. You might want to use a needle-nose vise grips to grab the little edge on top and then pull straight up. Also, make sure you look at exactly where they go back in. Take a picture when you take one out so you can tell when you are putting the new one back in. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

You take a punch and hit it out from the other side with a hammer. The other pin with the spring on it has to come out too, I took a screw driver and pushed on the side with the spring, then stuck the screwdriver under the washer thing on the other side and carefully pry it off, careful cuz you have to reuse it.

Haha .. you had all the same problems, thats why it took me a few hours, to figure out how to get these things off without breaking them.. The plastic things, just use a pair of pliars and grip, then pull. |

I could have used this thread a week ago when i put mine it, I just played it by ear (major thanks to coomers how-to) I read and re-read durring the install. but yeah thats how ya do it. my kit maid it really hard to install the spacers, the new bults where longer then the stock but not long enough to make it easy, the hardest part was pushing down on the bult and truning wile trying to line it up, and get the threads to grip. just an fyi when you install it in the car, (if you have not yet)
