too used to power !, GT-4 Drive Options

after another Moscow celica meet on sunday (sorry i didnt have camera with me) maybe 20 celicas were present.....
a couple of 185 where drag racing in the snow and having some fun.....
now anyone how knows me will tell you i drive like i'm out sight seeing i didn't join the fun............

however as most of the guys left for a warmer cafe to continue the meet, a SSII guy came over and explained he was a 'test driver' for one of moscow top 'saloon car race teams' and wanted to know what it was like in a GT-4 205 ?????

well after he returned my car after a 5 min blast, his face was cracked in two with plesure i din't understand all of what he said as he was talking to fast (i'm not the best russian speaker) but he was total amazed at it's handling and power, which to come from a 'test driver' is impressive !!!!!!

when i returned to my baby i tried to understand how he felt !!!!

i couldn't as it's my daily drive...........

what i'm trying to say is it good to drive another car every now and then just so you understand, what a great car you have, be it a GT-4 or an ST, Celicas aree just the best

Nothing can beat that feeling when you put the hammer down, just got my`n back on the road after 8 days of messing around with it and transforming it from its Winter setup back to the summer setup, the acceleration is intoxicating. After smoking a Sierra Cosworth and obliterating a Mitsubishi Fto I returned home with a big grin on my face. Its the perfect time of the year for GT4`s, dry and sunny, but still cold.
Popstar - Hows your tinkering coming along? did you try out any of the ideas I suggested? If so did you get the same astonishing results I did?

as i'm getting it serviced on friday, and if they see the adjustment the machanics will start getting all up tight and stuff.....
but i'll let you know, i hope i'll feel the same as you, we've still got snow for another month but i can't wait for the cool dry air and fast dry road, then the audi's and subaru's need to watch out !!!!

You're a braver man than I letting a stranger take your GT-FOUR for a blat. Only two other people have driven mine while I've owned it. They were both trusted mates plus I was in the passenger seat

yeah, i beleived him as i've seen the artical about his team in car mag's over here, and photo's of him in the race cars......

just never had a chance to spek with the guy...........

A lot of the magazines state that its not the power or handling of the ST205 that makes it a pleasure to drive, but rather that Toyota expertly made every drop of power available to every level of driver- you don't need to KNOW the car to drive it well.

I`d disagree I`m afraid, Its an easy car to drive, but its not easy to get the best from and drive "well". The AWD takes a bit of getting used to, the steering is very rapid, keeping it in the powerband is different to driving an NA car, you have to be very precise with the gear shifts as the gears have a narrow gate, it took me a good few months of driving to get the best from it, and there is still alot to learn. It bogs down pretty quick if you dont keep the revs up on launch/start, no torque steer, Back end can be a little nervous and letting off the gas on a fast sharp corner is a big no no. Putting down more power when it starts to slip so that the AWD can get a grip really dosnt feel natural and took alot of getting used to.

Well there`s a couple nocking around the US, maybe you`ll get lucky and be the proud owner of one, one day . Then you`ll be able to make all your buds jealous as you leave em in yer dust and tell everyone what they are like to drive. You cant beat first hand experience of these cars. I do feel gutted for you guys in the States not getting the GT4, there are alot of outrageous amature modders over the pond, it would have been interesting to see what you could do with it.

The ST205 is the easiest car I've ever tried to drive fast and hard. Wide powerband, a chassis you can trust and brakes from God.

It made my bosses 2004 WRX STi feel snappy and over sensitive.
