http://www.everythingcelica.com/gal3/albums/inst/film.jpg http://www.everythingcelica.com/gal3/albums/inst/plug.jpg from everythingcelica.com most of us have the green clock, so only those will work with us. i would have never thought to use purple and blue to have a blue clock. guess ill have to try it out. oop, my bad:
http://www.everythingcelica.com/gal3/albums/inst/film.jpg (added this link to first post also) im guessing you just take out the stock lens and put the cellophane over the clock face and put the clock back in. are clocks aren't that complicated, u just take it out pop the little brown thing off, if u leave it off your clock is now white, after that u can use either oracel transparent vynel like i did, or notebook tabs to change to what every u want.

my click is teal with the filter off, which is why i put the guide up. if it was white then there would be no need for this topic.

yeah mine is a light green/teal without the brown thing. I had a look at my clock plug just then and its different to whats in the pic. mine has 5 holes, but only has 4 wires (only 4 connections on the clock too). the green one is second from the left. would pulling the green still work?
and also, is there a way to remove the wire from the plug, without damaging it? theres some clips things on the top but i dont know how they work.. |

wow what is this...the 6th topic on changing the clock color? lol thats cool though Ill just add my .02 again hehe! Batman & I both used blue stage lighting gel (a thin film of plastic) on our clocks. I was lucky like some of the other people on here & had the super white clock once the lenz was removed...(the picture is w/ the film of course lol)

Its friggin easy just buy some celophane or tabs like i did and stick it in.
(yes that plug goes into the back of the clock) Might as well leave it hooked up since your lights are on when its dark and you dont need the super bright clock light in your eyes. clock...................................................... http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...92entry261592 -------------------- -97 Celica ST

Unfortunately I have the brown lens. This makes it kinda difficult because when you put in the filters it dims the light. I may need to disconnect that wire that dims it with the lights. Also, I haven't seen it during the day...I hope I can still see it.

blaque, you take the lens off. you dont keep it on when you change the clock color or the lens will dim it (like in your case) and make the color not be what you want.

i just did it. its much better than the teal i had. i ended up using 1 purple layer under 2 layers of blue. that seemed to have good lighting still and have a nice blue clock.

Hey, thanks rocky. I did end up taking it off, but I din't want to just leave it like that, without anything solid to cover it. So I got a piece of clear plastic that was lying around the house, cut it, and used the oven to soften it so that I could shape it to fit where the original brown lens used to go. Then I laid it in and used three spots of glue with the gluegun to hold it in...now the clock is white. Then i put in a whole bunch of blue cellophane wrapping and a little bit of purple. Now it looks great. Even in the daytime the clock lens is blue, I think it looks pretty cool.
I'll put up some pics soon so that you guys can see. Thanks everyone!:D This post has been edited by blaque_6thGen: Mar 30, 2005 - 11:39 AM -------------------- ![]() this is what happens when your little brother is better at photoshop than you are |

that was the point of this thread haha. for those of us who have the green clock (such as me) the guide will tell you what to put over the clock for your desired color. 2 blue layers over 1 purple layer over my green (teal with no filter) clock made it a nice clean blue.

maybe this is a dumb question. what kind of clock does my car bring? i dont know if they were made randomly or if specific clocks were made for specific years. because from what i understand, some clocks just come white with a green filter, and some clocks shine green with no filter. mine is a 94 st coupe. i want a standard blue color for mine. not light and not too dark. just like a royal blue. im guessing if its like rocky's with no filter, i would use 2 blues over 1 purple. but if it's white...what do i use? a couple of blue layers??? and how do i know if my clock has a filter? are these dumb questions??? lol.

all clocks have filters. mine was a teal clock with a brownish lens to make it a greenish color. some are white with a different filter. if you have a white clock, then yes, use a few blue layers only.

Just a thought, why don't we all post the information of our car (year, model, etc.) and what kind of clock we have (white or green) to see if we can notice some kind of pattern to their distribution. It would be nice for people to be able to predict the version of clock they have before cracking it open, plus I'm just curious to see if there is a correllation.

my input on the clocks would be to go with lighting gels they work so much better than anything else...its what they are made to do ... go to a local music store that sells stage lights and speakers and what not i asked my local shop for a piece of red gel and he gave it to me for free..

Hey guys, just to update this.
I found a rosco distributor here in Peru. So i visit them and got a couple of sample books. with 15 minutes of work i got this ![]() it looks kind of blury but it looks really nice. I'm really happy with it, now my panel looks like this. ![]() i just remove the brown filter from the mask and replace it with one blue filter the #85 deep blue fropm the supergel sample book!!! Thanks for this post!!! it worked great and I also cut the green cable to avoid the clock dim while the headlights are on. |

nope, our clocks are diff. wiring. they only have four wires, but cutting the green wire still stops it dimming when your headlights come on. You don't have to cut anything to stop dimming. Open the clock and remove spring which makes electrical connection between PCB and green wire. |

I just went to a rosco dealer in jacksonville. They didn't have the supergel sample books, but they had another kind of gel sample book from 2 different companies, I got one of each and went to work. I started out with a teal colored clock like many others, I used a #80 Primary Blue and a almost see through pinkish color. The pinkish color canceled out the teal somehow and made my clock whitish and the blue made the whitish color into blue with a blue background. I had a lot of trouble using hot glue and screwed up a lot of the gels, I ended up just using super glue and everything is working out and looks fantastic!
jaxstage.com is the site for the store I got the gels from. You can find a list of rosco dealers by going to rosco.com and clicking "where to buy." Hope this helps some folks out, and thanks whoever suggested the gels! |
