YOU can put the kit on yourself, as far as painting it, prolly around $300 sounds right...
But dont spend the money on having a shop fit them unless something specials needs to be done for your situation. Just take some time on a Saturday and spend the day taking your time and putting it on yourself. -------------------- Armed? Armed with what?

holy crap where do you guys live to have install AND paint for a kit for under 1000 dollars. I got quoted from 1400 to 2500 on install and paint. i guess my area just sucks . anyway installing kits (specially a lip kit) isnt at all that hard. you should try and do it yourself... trust me its not difficult then just have someone pro paint it for ya. and just as a note... i had my kit painted for 650 bucks... and thats just painting the kit... ouch i needa move!

I bought my 404 kit off ebay (also known as a Z kit)($300 shipped) and took it to a local body shop (our regular body shop) and they painted it for 400 flat, I did all the pre-work and fitting (its easy just a little fiberglass/bondo/primer) it currently is sitting in my room with all my other parts waiting for my car to go into the same shop.
There gana pull out my big dent, and a few small ones, re-sand my doors and hatch (where I stripped the handles and wing) and re-paint the whole car (same color) including under the hood for $2400 cash. -------------------- |

Im with you BBoy - I was quoted 2000 to put on and paint and around 700 just to paint...But if they are looking for the cheap way out they could prep the kit themselves and have a maaco paint it and then put it on themselves...save a lot more money that way...

I personally think a lot of those prices sound low. My kit was $500. I did all of the work on the car (fixed all the dings, dents, key marks, shaved side markers and welded up the holes for the old spoiler and put on the new one, and the custom hood vent thingee.) I had a bodyman quote me about $1000 to do the hood alone. I spent around $400 on the paint materials, and about $400 for the guy to paint it all. And that was a deal too. I had to paint all of the door jams and stuff to get the price down that low.
You can spend a lot on bodywork and paint. Do it yourself. You'll save money and have some fun too -------------------- |

QUOTE(tomazws @ Mar 31, 2005 - 8:11 AM) O_o 700 to fit and 350 to paint? I think I'll hold off on these eye-candy kits I know huh thats expensive. But that is how it is in the East coast and some of the isolate areas. But in southern california its like 600to paint a whole car. By the way for anyone local southern california people. If you need a paint job I have a guy that does it for around $600 to paint the whole car with any OEM color. Hope this helps. |

I would be wary of only a 600 dollar job. I am doing my car myself and on materials alone im spending over 600 - that includes all necessary prep material and paint (paint alone with primer, sealer, black base and clear was over 1000).
So why is the job so cheap, and does he do any of the prep work? -------------------- Armed? Armed with what?

I picked House of Kolor paint by Valspar Industries. Yes, House of Kolor paint is usually VERY expensive compared to other paints, but I have looked at PPG and Dupont and I have a "source" where I can get House of Kolor paint cheaper than PPG or Dupont.
www.autobodydepot.com (cheap tools and materials) www.hokpaint.com (cheap paint - unless you go with kandys and all the show **** then its a LOT of money) I went with Jet Black, and then I am going to do lots of clear so it shines like a mother. I thought about going with something fancy, but my original color was a black (more flat and not as deep as jet black) but by doing black I can avoid doing all the door jams and bay and all that. So primarily I stuck with black to save time, and money. -------------------- Armed? Armed with what?

I installed everything myself, had it painted at Maaco, which i will never do again.
I think the worst thing about buying the kit is if you live in a area where roads are crappy like in NJ, you are guaranteed to break it at some point. Usually lips are the first to go.-due to ramps and speedbumps etc Sideskirts go later, depending if you are carefull crossing the speed bumps -------------------- Captain Pessimist
