Hehe, Well..... Lets start.

First of all, who aint know yet, me and Edo (Link to his profile >>>) where contacting eatch other about 2 years now. He helped me alot, i did the same. We live about 1700 miles away from eatch other (he's italian), but we talked alot on phone and etc. So....

The deal is - Edo, was going to fix his car from the accident hes got, and he wanted full repaint. In italy they charge about 2500 euros (2800$) for full repaint with color change. So i offerend him my help, and aranged everything here for a full repaint with color change a LOOOOOooooot cheaper wink.gif

I aranged the truck (my friend buys cars from Italy, so he helped me with bringing Edos car here), and after 5 days of waiting i drove his car home smile.gif

From the first look, there wasnt too much wokr on his car... But... after some further examination.. i found Waaaayyyyyy too much things to do before it goes to paint shop.. Here it is, the damage and things need to be fixed:

Fender..... Out of shape - compleatly, the whole shape is made out of Bondo... What the hell do goys thought then they fix it? The metal is not even straighted, the dents are all letf and instead of hamerring the metal out to the place they fixed it with bondo..... frown.gif

user posted image

Bumper, needed a bit of heat gun, and soldering gun smile.gif And after 30 min it was just like new smile.gif

user posted image

Driver side fender... it looked just like not a big dent.... hmmm, till i started to hamer it... It seemed like both fenders had a big damage, but instead of shaping metal to its original pl;ace, the guys who fixed car before, go the fender shape outt of bondo, with offcorse started to crack....

user posted image

Side skirts - Going Custom Baby smile.gif I will make my own style of sides for him anyway, so what ever the damage is - i dont care biggrin.gif

user posted image

Interior.... Who ever painted this - deserves to be shoot. Wiring... Oh man smile.gif Edo, you know what i thought smile.gif I will rewire everything, and mount the Profec E01 to the shifter trim, so it will be NO wires all around, and everything will be safe and clear smile.gif

user posted image

Well, enouth ox examinations...... Lets start works smile.gif

After about hour, his car looked like this... Hood was open, and works where fully began.

user posted image

30 min later - both fenders are out of the car, waiting till i remove whole bondo from them, sand them till bare metal, and then hammer them to the original shape.

Passenger side fender - works began smile.gif Sanded all the bondo, hammered it to its almost original place, but still lots of work left...... Found a lot of places there the rust was already going below the bondo...

user posted image

user posted image

user posted image

There was few places there the metal was riped apart from the damage... so here comes welder and everything fixed smile.gif Now need to sand the welding spots down - and we will be almost done.

user posted image

testing to see if the shape is starting to look better, and fixing smal incorections.

user posted image

user posted image

Resanded everything with orbital sander - and we are done before coating the anti-rust spray begins.

heres how much of Bondo i found on fenders, this is just simple example HOW NOT TO DO IT! use as minimum bondo as posible the\n working outside of your car, try to get shape as much as posible from metal... Cuz bondo - cracks, setles down from sun, and leaves unwanted scratch marks and inperfections.

Here it is - second fender resanded, and rehamered to its place..

user posted image

After i removed fenders i found another problem - frame damage... It is not big at all, but the front frame is all pushed down and turned left a bit.. This what cased Edos car to have iregular tire wear and some suspension problems.. The frame was welded BUT not straighned. Left as it is..... what person could do this???

Thanks god i have few guys who does this kind of jobs, so this was fixed already on second day smile.gif And it seemd that there wasnt too much of damage, one wheel was pushed to the back about 1cm, so after the frame rewokrs everything was back to normal smile.gif

Start of day 2

Poor headlight... If you notice, all the headlights there missing mounting brackets.. they there all broken in accident frown.gif had to glue the left one, and make new brackets out from nothing..

user posted image

here are 2 brackets, soldered with soldering gun and some plastic (thanks god i still had my old healight with was all broken, so i used the same plastic to make the brackets, they now are good as new smile.gif

user posted image

user posted image

here is one guiding bracket, witch was getting on my nerves... i had to make it out from nothing.. used the old headlight bracked (the headlight was from left side s i had to rework it to fit on right side headlight)... it took me about 2 hours till i got it right in to place there it needs to be... and used lots of plastic to glue it up.. now it holds up like it was there biggrin.gif

user posted image

Well, this practicly was teh end of the second day, cuz i had to finish my works early cuz weather was nice, and i wanted to play tennis sooooo badly smile.gif Hehe, more updates - Thusday, then i start to reasemble the front back together and will try to get everything to shape as posible, need to adjust all the fender/hood/bumper/headlights gaps... this will be very much work.... But this car will be one show stoper then i finish with it smile.gif

wow, great job Romas. I wish I had time to do the sort of things you do. Why didn't you just get some used or aftermarket fenders instead of repairing ?

also, are those Audi/VW wheels on Edo's Celica ?

again, nice nice job

Well, its pretty hard to get the fenders here of a celi.... so it will be cheaper for edo if i repair them instead of buyng new.

Well, doGGy. I was impressed just by your work with tuning parts but now... HUGE RESPECT!!! bowdown.gif
Seems to me that I should also have some work done, just like edo. Whole body painting - definitely, after getting fixed some scratches and bumps on fenders and doors. Could you PM me on the cost, if you could do it. Luckily, I would not have to ship my car - I could just drive it to you smile.gif

I respect you alot for being a car innovator however let me ask you doggy:

Having your knowledge and skills with custom bodywork, why did you spend all this time fixing stock fenders? Did the guy want the manufacturer look on his car?

Lol..... Guys, thanks for the comments, and i totaly agree with Digndoug - im not a God at all.... there is no line about me in bible LOL....

Well back on subject:

3 DAY OF WORK on Edo's Celica.

Not done much, cuz whole day i spent fixing small things and preparing all the pieces for reasembling.

Lets start with the Rust fixing chemicals:

The smallest bottle is Rust cohesive material, its the best one i ever used from company Hammerite. Then id dryes it is like epoxyd, really good stuff, you can straight paint on it or use bondo or primers. The second bottle on the left is Rust fixing primer, witch contains some rust cohesive characteristic it is really good to use after all the rust or bare mettal is brushed with the first material. And the third, the biggest bottle - really good anti-rust wax, it is really tenacious, and it is really sticky so it is good to use in the places there the water gets - it stops water compleatly before it gets to the mettal.

user posted image

Here the first material used to fix all the rust and the bare metal, after brushing it - all the places gets dark blue and they are covered in like a thin some sort of skin.

user posted image

user posted image

After about 3 hours - the rust fixing primer comes to play, i use it everythere there the first chemical was used, just to make sure better covering from rusting in these places.

user posted image

user posted image

And here it is - all mighty Wax, im covering full iner side of the fender - just in case wink.gif And for better covering smile.gif

user posted image

user posted image

I'v still had to fix one headlight, i did the left mount from piece of plastic, lots of gluing, lots of soldering, but it came pretty not too bad smile.gif And it is strong, really strong.

user posted image

Fixed the headlight holdes (bottom bars), they there all bended and out fo the shape, after hammering and bending them back - i needed to repaint them cuz in most parts paint was chiping away.

user posted image

And the final - the fun part, made some side bars smile.gif Took about 3 hours on them, but they came pretty not too bad, changed the original design a bit, cuz with the DG performance designt the wiring is a bit in the place there they have to go, so i made the design of them different.... hope they will help you Edo smile.gif

user posted image

Tomorow is reasembling and corecting all the gaps on the car day smile.gif gonna see if i did all the metal works corectly smile.gif Stay tuuuuuuuunnnnnnned for the updates smile.gif I already ordered paint, this car is going to be one of the HELL color smile.gif But this will have to wait biggrin.gif

Lets get back on the track smile.gif)

Days 4-5 of work:

Finally, reasembled the front, and fixed all the gaps. Now they are all practicly equal. Wasnt really too hard cuz i almost got all the shapes right then i hammered fenders. Atleast now the front of the car look not out of shape smile.gif This was the end of the work on the front...

user posted image

Second custom thing for Edosmobile - Strut bar... This sucker got my nerves totaly, cuz making it was like a hell.... first - what ever i did - i did wrong making it... Either it hitted hood, or was hitting engine... so i had to make the front bar bend in the both ends.. and etc... well Lets start with the pics:

This is the beggining of the side mounts. Cutting them with disc cutter, and them sanding them till the equal shape... Takes time, but in the end - worth it.

user posted image

user posted image

This is the end link of the front bar, i sanded it down (sanded all the welds) and got pretty nice shape smile.gif Needed to make them both equal on the both ends so this took time still...

user posted image

user posted image

user posted image

Fitted the strud bar to see is there any issues with it or not... Thanks god - no problems now smile.gif Anything that is left - 2 center bars...

user posted image

Working today took me whole day to make these 2 bars.... Cuz my welding machine was going crazy... shiz i need new one.. either it was over powered but it burned metal compleatly in few places... so i had to start all over again and again... Welll in the end it my welder setle down and i almost finished - 90% done.. Still need to weld small triangles on the end mounts, and get the bar to get sandblasted and then Edo will chrome it smile.gif

Third custom thing - Side skirts, and then i will move to interior biggrin.gif

keep an eye guys wink.gif

Oooooook sorry for the long wait, but few last days i'v been working on Edos var for about 12 hours a day so i dont want to turn my PC on then i get home - just nice warm sleep.......

But.... as i promised - here coes the MAKING THE SIDESKIRTS:

Lets start from the point, that is nessesary to build some simple shape sideskirts. First of all i bough a sheet of metal thickness about 1 mm, then i vent to one metal shot and asked them to bend the shape from it, like i arleady knew what shape i want so i just drawed scetch and let them do they job. After this, then the metal shape was ready, i lay fiberglass inside it, basicly i use about 4-6 layers of fiber fabric, to get the right thickness and strenght.

Here are the pics of the metal shape and right next to it - removed one piece of fiberglass shape, ready to be used in making basic shape of the sides. The reason i use metal shape, that it is the fastest way to get the fiberglass product out of it, it wount requires any mold relising chemical, and it is easy to work with it.

user posted image

After i got one straight piece, i cut the top till needed height, and then im fitting it on the car. As long as we all know that the celica side is curved, so you cant use one long straight piece, so im making 2 straight pieces of fiberglass shape, then im fitting one on the straight place (there the doors area), another piece im cutting into 2, and fitting them from the ends.
user posted image

user posted image

It requers sanding to fit the other 2 pieces to the sides, cuz the shape of the car is not straight at all, so after sanding them till the needed form, im just fixing them to center piece by aliuminium plates and some screws together. Im using aliuminium plates on the inner side too, just to get the strenght in these plases. Well, then all this done, im removing them from the car, and glassing the iner side (note: Im leaving the aliuminium plates inside, i just glass over them, just to have some reinforcment.).

user posted image

After the glassing is done, im cutting the shape to the right lenght, and try to fit it again on the car, just to see if everything is alright. As you can see in this photo, the car is all taped up with covering material, yes it is cuz im ready to move to the next level now.

user posted image

user posted image

After i fit them tight on the car - i glass them on the gar, just to have the best fit, and to rise the ends of it higher on the body of the car. The epoxyd removes easy from the covering material, so after its all dry, just pull the scirts out a bit - and here ya go:

user posted image

user posted image

Well, after some sanding, cutting messuring - i got one side almost done, sure you can see in these photos what it looks lie for real, but they will look pretty nice and simple. After some desidions i cutted the small vent on the end of the sides, just to ruin the plain design, still need to make somthing on the front of the sides, but i will see what will come to my head then i install the front extensions...

user posted image

user posted image

user posted image

user posted image

user posted image

Later yeasterday after whole works, i finally tryed installing SSIII extensios, just to see is the height of the sides is atleast the same as extensions - and bingo, it is wink.gif Well, as for more works to come on the sides, they are still unfinished, so stayyyyyyyy TUUUUUUUnnnnnned for more updates and dont judge the unfinished product.

Thanks you all guys biggrin.gif

you my sir are a legend.
I wish you could do a bit better write up into an artical for the bodykit. Specificly working with the fiberglass (cutting the vents and stuff)

Also looking at the picture of the rear of the car at the top of the page. I think the celica is gorgeous without the wing. Is there any rear bodykit or anything changed about the car in that shot? Lights, Lowered etc. It just looks so good.

I'll keep those JDMs light, the only thing I'll do is to remove the orange bulb cover inside the light once my car will be back home smile.gif
As for the rear nothin will change except the N1 style single muffler smile.gif

i ment current mods at the moment. Why not keep the dual dual exhausts? I think that dual exhausts look awesome as they seem to balance the rear out.

Here we go again, another day - another update smile.gif

REAR END REWORK:

First of all - say BYE BYE to Quatro exhaust smile.gif LOL This needed to go sooner or later, so it was the day i finally cutted it down biggrin.gif

user posted image

He he LOVE this tool so much, i could cut with it all the day long and wount be tired - LOVE destroing biggrin.gif

user posted image

After cutting the exhaust, i desided instead of simply glassing the rear - change the design of the rear lip a bit. Soooo some cutting sanding drilling was requered to make my idea work.

user posted image

user posted image

user posted image

NOTE TO EVERYONE: Before any glassing on the dry fiberglass of other types of plastics drill lots of small holes around the area you will be using fiberglass, it improves the sticking of fiberglass and it will reinforce the places there you lay the fiberglass. This is important then connecting FG with normal plastics or poliuretanium.

user posted image

After holes are drilled im using the special foam used in building gliders, to fill the empty spaces, and to make the needed shape of the places i will be fiberglassing. THis foam is resistible to fiberglass, head, or any other materials, really easy to work with and Very very expensive (1 sq meter of 2 cm thicknes foam costs about 30$). It is easy to glue it to anything using hot glue gun or just simple Bondo (or filler like we in Europe call it biggrin.gif )

Here are the empty spaces filed with the foat and the shape is sanded down.

user posted image

user posted image

user posted image

Well after the shape is finished - fibergalssing takes place. Im using normal FB fabrics (not the random cutted one - like we call it Mat here). It lays really smoth i lay about 4-6 layers of it.

NOTE: If your laying FG on the places what are not easy to reach or they are in vertical position, brush the epoxyd resin on the places you will lay FG and dry it a bit with Heatgun, let it dry for about 5-10 min, it will get sticky and will holw the FG better, wount let it slide down.

here are the pics of the shapes fully fiberglassed, this was the End of this day, cuz i had to fiberglass the sides skirts a bit too in few places, and as long as it is COLD here again (+4 - 6 C only ) so Fb dryes longer.. Tomorow i will resand the places there i layed FG, and bondo them to get a smoth surface and will take better pics for you guys to judge biggrin.gif

user posted image

Well Thank yu guys again for your kind words smile.gif As for more write up - sorry but somtime i just can have power to write more - cuz im working on This car like 8-10 hours a day and still need to arange lots of other projects that are in process... so it takes everything from me....

These pics where taken then the car was just out of the painting garage, and was moving to wetsand / polish place.... The color in real looks twice better, the camera cant recreate the color flip effect..

This will be the Milan's bluest celica biggrin.gif

Well, now all you have to do is wait for fully reasembled pics and some Dyno
sheets wink.gif

P.S. Who ever guesses color code - get a custom COCKIE lol

p.s.s. Consynx - you are not alowed in guessing! biggrin.gif
