3,515lbs!! Why the hell are MKIV Supra's so heavy?
Weight is the killer in any good sports car, so why would Toyota make the MKIV so damn heavy? They're not big cars by any means, I just don't understand what it might be.. I'm looking into buying one within the next couple years and was wondering what could be done (MKIV specific) to lower that massive curb weight -------------------- |

for the same reason that the 300zx TT are so heavy
they have a lot of plush crap that goes with being the flagship car. the power seats are probably 50 or more lbs each, the sound system, 5lbs a speaker, the back seat, sound deadening material, and all around strong metal that weighs more. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

im thinking that it being released in late 92 in japan, making it almost 14 years old kinda skews the idea that its heavy- it IS an old car now by todays standards of tecnology...

because it is indeed a sports car, and an over-engineered one at that. It is made to handle the stresses of a very powerful and heavy engine, the stresses of stable high speeds, the stresses of tight, fast cornering. All this beefing up on the frame, suspension, axle, tranny, etc... takes its toll in weight.
to reduce weight, i did a quick google and foudn this: http://www.suprahardtopregistry.com/Weight...htreduction.htm -------------------- Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it... |

that big 6cylinder motor, beefy tranny, drive shaft and rear diff all add up to a lot of it. then stuff like bigger brake rotors, etc all add up.
