So I got back from college and today I was going to take the car out and then i checked everything over to make sure everything would be alright like oil and tire pressure and what not. Well i go inside and put the key in and try to turn her over and all she does is click and then i try again and nothing, just a single click. well after a few tries it stopped from a single click to just when turning the key it would constantly click if the key was trying to start the car over so i was like wow that is interesting and it doesnt sound very good. anyone know what the problem is? i figure it's the starter but could be something else, im not entirely sure at all.

Try "kick starting" it first to see if it is your starter or battery. Either be on a hill or get someone to push the car while its in gear, clutch in. When you get to 5MPH, pop out the clutch. If it starts, it's the battery. No start, it's the starter.

hey guys well i checked the battery and it said that it was only at 4ams on the cahrging meeter, meaning that it was darn close to death. I put the charger on there for about an hour, then tryed starting it up again. fired up pretty quickly then i left the car on for about 10 minutes or so and then went out and did stuff and everytime i got in the car, it fired right up so it must have been a weak battery. i think i might get a new one just to be safe cause it is under warrenty for another 2 years. I still think i might have slight starter troubles too but if the car fires up like is has been for the rest of day i have no worries. thanks for the input i need to do some maitenance this summer to make sure she keeps living for another year.

You can also have bad contacts in the starter. I had to have mine replace becuase they were corroded. You can read a classic case here:
Mine would just click, and no turn over, then after about 3 to 4 clicks it would start, after reading the description in the website, found out the contacts were worn out. This is a know problem for the contacts in the starter, no need to replace the eniter starter. Starter Contact Repair This post has been edited by exxtractor: May 21, 2005 - 2:19 PM |
