yeah a 9800 pro is probibly the best in its price range. I dont reccomend a nividea card again I have the FX 5700 LE OC and its ok but has some big problems (overheating is the main one, even though its over clocked from the box the fan on it just cant keep it in a safe range when you push the graphics)

ya they did some testing and the radeons out performed the nvidias by far. Make sure if you buy it, DO NOT use the installation disk they give you, put it in and download the newest drivers off ati.com, the cd you get is not up to date, and the site will give you the best drivers at the time and the card will work much better for you |

It's true that in some games Radeons will outperform nVidias but that is because certain games are designed specifically for certain cards. For example, ATI cards will be better with Half-Life 2 while nVidia cards are better with Unreal Tournament 2004. Let us know your price range and we can let you know what card is a good choice. 9800Pro is at a good price right now. Don't bother going for the 256mb version because it actually uses slower memory than the 128mb version. The GeForce 5900 series is right around the level of the 9800Pro for about the same price. So if you're one of those people who just feels that one brand is better, choose accordingly. However, I wouldn't rule out cards like the GeForce 6600 and X600 if your budget can support them. |

Or your card could possibly be overheating (I'm assuming you're not overclocking it or anything?)... make sure the fan on the card is still operational. |

just booted to a totally different installation of xp on a spare harddrive i had and installed doom3. after a few seconds the whole screen starts getting these white dots all over the place...and sometimes the game will lock up if i keep it on.
i never had hardware issues with any nvidia card ive owned, but i have a feeling this ati has finally taken a crap on me. anyone ever use ATIs warrenty service? -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

well i found the problem and fixed it.
took the card out, and took off the heatsink. noticed that the thermal paste under the heatsink was all dry and chiped off. cleaned as much of the old paste off as i could, and applied a fresh coat of new stuff. now all games work perfectly and i get no more visual artifacts! -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I know for a fact that, that is part of my problem with my card, I have swapped heat sinks and then swapped back to the original withough adding that crap (i guess I'm just to lazy to go to the store and buy more paste even though i can get it so cheap)
however I perfer ATI cards over nivida, even though its kinda an apples to oranges thing. -------------------- |

i'm pretty sure all AIW are pro's. the white box just means its not retail.
