im installing my GF HU in her 99 celica with the stock Amp..i bought the harness with the rca cable to be able to use the stock amp along with the aftermarket HU..but seems like the stock amp is dead..cause the HU turns on but i get no sound...my question is

1. If the amp is bad would i still get sound or do i need to take the stock amp out and get a different harness that doesnt use the stock amp

Or is something else wrong with the car...

What I would suggest is re-connecting the factory stereo. That will tell you if the amp is dead (not likely) or if it's just something with the connections.

Also, if you have more than one set of pre-outs (the RCA jacks on the back) then you need to make sure that the RCAs are plugged into the jacks that say "front".

If you do decide to bypass the stock amp you will need to buy the basic wiring harness that says for "toyota 1987 and up". You don't actually have to remove the stock amp but you MUST locate the factory wiring that it plugs into. Unfortunately it is usually located UNDER the amp and can be very difficult to get to without removing a lot of console trim pieces. You'll know you found it when you find 2 blue connectors.

Good luck!
