Why is it that the spectrum of Celica owners is so extreme?
On one hand you have the super-extreme-enthusiasts like us, who absolutely love our cars and know everything about them and all that, and realize how rare and special they are. On the other hand it seems everyone else who owns a Celica has zero appreciation for their car. I see lots of Celicas around the town I live in and would love to leave some 6gc.net business cars on them or something but most of them have just been treated so badly that they are just junk. One guy drives a nice black one with 7th gen rims but doesn't speak a bit of english and if you look inside the car it's like there was a dogfight or something in it. Another is the same color as mine and wingless (looks so hot) but when you get up close it's all keyed and scratched up, looks like it's been in a lot of fender benders and not repaired, etc etc. Before I bought my Celi I looked at numerous ones that had just been absolutely trashed-i'm talkin bullet holes, weird damage, zero maintenence (one didn't have much if any oil in the car) It just bugs me because Celi's are already rare and decreasing in numbers fast. I've seen one other really nice one in town. Anyone else notice this or is it just me? -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

Just you from around these parts... They're rare, but treated well. Nothing after market done, but treated well

It's kind of a snowballing effect, if they're not really enthusiasts in the first place and they dent up the car or scratch it they'll care less and less about treating it properly and won't bother fixing it up or maintaining it well, leading to more problems. I've seen a 20 something receptionist who's spoiler is peeling paint worse than a snake shedding skin, yet remains unfixed... Oh well. It happens. I like the rarity of our cars anyway. Also, to the wanker who stuck a lollipop under my spoiler and think I wouldn't notice... I did!

Exactly. My car is now one of those cars where "when you get up close it's all keyed and scratched up." Are you saying that I just don't care? That'd be wrong. Because I do care, and I've spend more time and money and blood and sweat and tears on my car than a lot of people on here, but I can't see spending lots of money on getting 70% of my car painted since it'll only probably get destroyed once again by vandals. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Yea, I have a nasty looking dent where the drivers side fender meets the bumber, and I have paint peeling on both bumpers because the ***clown who repainted them (from previous accidents... my car seems to get hit a lot when its parked for some reason) didn't even primer the new bumpers. But, I don't have the money to repaint, and im going to replace my fenders / bumpers anyways when I get the money, so why waste it now to repaint it then get it all painted again later?
Though, i keep my interior very clean and throw a hissy everytime someone messes it up. Took some jerks home from the beach one day... ended up vacuuming sand out of the backseat for an hour. |

I do have to admit my clearcoat is peeling on my spoiler and roof, but I'm going to wait to fix it when i can paint the whole car and do some other body work. wow thanks for assuming I'm a kid (which I'm not) I guess I just hate seeing rare cars like these (and other rarities i've owned) get treated so badly I understand not having the car as a first priority and things like that, but some people just absolutely trash cars period. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

celica's are getting old, old cars dont get treated nicely and tend to have alot of battle scars.

I cant check the others 6gc in my town cause im the only one!!
the less those people take care of their car....the more our cars become rare (in a certain way)...so it's not a 100% bad thing |

im one of the people you would assume dosent take as good care of the celi as he should. got paint peelin like a mofo on the hood and roof and a dent on the rear quarter panel right where it meets the rear bumper (got a band aid over it for character) but hey, some have the time some dont, some are lazy and some arent. im the former of both.
but i wouldnt trade my celica for a brand new import with gabrielle union included! wow...im a horrible lyar... This post has been edited by easternpiro1: Jul 13, 2005 - 5:54 AM -------------------- |

Yeah you just gotta understand that the majority of people dont make their car their hobby. The 6th gen celica I believe wasnt even marketed as a youthful sports car, I think it was marketed as a slick secretarys commuter ride. Now how many adminstrative assistants do you know dream about making their car cooler.
For those of us that do make their car their hobby, take pride in what you have and figure its an added bonus when you see another one just like it that is well kept and even enhanced with aftermarket parts. |

It is true though i've noticed that either they are enthusiast or treat it like a 4 door Civic, I only know of one that the person kept it stock and nice and it was some 65 year old with a vert in uptown Charlotte. It doesn't bother me though because the more they get treated like crap and destroyed, the easier it is to source parts, I still haven't had the metal replaced from the hit I took in April because I can't find a good wrecked one to get the quarter panel from.

it really is true... but not out here. When i went to grand forks (ND) i saw 3 6gc's in a parking lot, not ONE of them didn't have HUGE dents, craploads of rust, and just scratches in the craziest places.. they looked like pieces of crap. and i told myself that when i got mine it would look so much better. Too bad when i bought my car i looked at it underneath clouds, no sun, and in the evening. so when i took it home the next day i only realized ALL the dents, but they're very tiny ones. But last week we had a hailstorm, and i got MORE dents... but eventually when i have cash i'll get it all fixed. I have a bit of rust too, but it's just on the inside of the door panel.. where many others have rust as well. But i still wash my car at least once every week if not more. And wax, and my interior is always clean. I love my car, and will treat it with respect. It does suck that most other 6gc owners that i have seen don't feel the same.

This is why I had such a difficult time finding one up to my standards within a reasonable radius recently.

lol, battle scars.
I'd rather have a trashed up Celica than a riced up Civic. Even when its tore up, the Celica looks a ****load nicer than a lot of cars out there, save for some. Somewhere, someone owns a twin turbo Supra with bullet holes in the door, cigar burns in the seats, spiderwebbed windshield, and 3 different rims and a donut... because the car was once nice doesn't mean it will stay that way forever. Reguardless, all hail the Celica: affordable, economical, attractive, and aggressive... What more could you want, aside from a 3SGTE and/or a 6 speed tranny? -------------------- 1987 Celica ST (RIP) 1st car too

Imagine my surprise when my first jaunt on the highway resulted in 3500 RPM @ 70 MPH and 4000 RPM @ 80 MPH!!!!! I was shocked to see how steep the gearing is in these suckers. -------------------- |
