Hey, I was wondering which electronic is good for my car. Should I get an Piggyback system like Megasquirt, or should I get an Engine managment system?
I need something that is affordable, reliable, and fast. Some things im looking for is the programability of using a Laptop and the need for less hardware to buy (eg. sensors, new parts that have to be wield on, or take engine apart just to put it on).

Any suggestions?

if you have a stock ST you don't need anything more then a SAFC 2

if you have a crazy turbo kit and such a full stand alone is wise....i've been lookin at prs4

Its not really stock anymore, I swapped it out with a 4age ST and my ECU was partially fried. It will start up, but it has super terrible A/F mixture (Actually Fire is spitting out of that thing!) and wont even go a feet or 2.

I heard SDS is good too, but you have to buy a few parts to attach to the engine just make the thing work and I really dont want to mess around with installing mechnical parts to the engine right now, because I dont have time.

" because I dont have time" that phrase and standalone is an oximoron
you HAVE to have time to do a stand alone it takes a very good time of programing and tunning on a dyno and splicing wires and such.....

emanage wont work too well if your ECU is fried, nor will any piggyback system

SDS runs off of a hall sensor, which requires a custom braket that holds the sensor near the crank pully and then for a 4cyl drilling 3 holes in the pulley for magnets.

its a good amount of work, but its not that hard

megasquirt is good, you can probably have a complete setup for $400. the sensors are cheap, or you can get them at a junkyard, i actually have 4 sets of IAT's and CHT's that are used in MS setups

wiring the SDS is much easier, you tell them when you order, what engien you have, and they make a harness

with megasquirt, you have to make the harness

either way, if you dont have time, go buy a replacement 4age ECU. i have personal experience with both SDS and MSnS. they take time to setup and get running properly

I don't mean to hijack the thread or anything, I was just wondering what kind of gains you can get from a SAFC 2.
