Ok guys so I applied for a car sponsorship through a scouting company, I was recommended to it by a guy in a local motorsports club who has 20000 to build his Scion tC. I sent them a letter about how I would love to have aid to build my Celica to make it a head-turner and hopefully through the experience aid sponsoring companies to open up to aftermarket parts for our cars. I hope something comes of it but I don't have my hopes up too high lol. It would be cool though, they asked for my planned modifications and i typed like a page of mods haha

eh wish me luck, i'm supposed to hear back by Thursday

~Brian

so the app this guy sent me just turns out to be a carsponsorships.com thing, they asked for my credit card number today and sent me an app for Hot Import Nights saying I'm eligible for $7000 for the HIN 2005 season (which has like what 4 shows left?) It totally looked like BS so I'm backing out of it. Sounded too good to be true, turns out it is. Oh well

Oh yeah, and going wingless today I'll shoot some pics up later

Thumbs up on both.

Real sponsorships dont need your credit card #.

Ok so after all it turns out this "scout" is just a window to one of those BS sponsorship things it was carsponsorships.com. Well after I had contacted them saying I do not wish to participate in the program anymore and would like to cancel since I had not received any sponsorships they e-mail me this "contract" with a bunch of BS "sponsorships" on it that I can "apply through the company for the final sponsorship."

Not only this, but my bank account has been charged $89 to them, plus a bunch of other random charges that I'm not sure what the hell they are. What the hell do I do now? They don't respond to e-mails, don't answer the phone etc etc do I get a lawyer?

Call your bank/card company immediately and tell them to cancel those charges and to prevent further charges from that company.

I have been sponsored by car sponsorships.com for the last 3 years and counting.
through them here is what I got:
2 sets of invader kits
z3 fenders
full exhaust by magnaflow (with exception of header)
2 sets of dragon decals (check my profile)
stormfx 10 stick colorstorm neon under car light system -in shipping right now
my pioneer cd player -soon to swith to another one

list of misconseptions:

-hey sponsor me with tons of parts and money-unless you are featured all over the place chance of you getting something big is slim

-hey sponsor me now now now- again patience is a virtue.. start slow and work your way up

-hey why are they asking my for my credit card? well you are paying once for a service and then for years to come you receive offers. I have saved a big sum of money by paying 86 dollars once

-hey but why are they only sending me "this"... you have a celica.. a vehicle below "fancy" -that is in the eyes of the sponsor company.

-hey why are they only sponsoring me for a fraction of a cost? hey 50% off the price tag goes a long way.

finally a word of advice:

-something is better than nothing
-email companies and offer them a deal they would like (the keyword is they)
-keep them updated with photos etc..
-be ready to stick some decals on...
-get a sponsor from a company that people usually dont (ie being sponsored by "trojan" would require your car fitted with a giant decal but rewarded with a hefty sum of money" the money could always go into your car.

my sponsored cost so far:
$ about 1500 in savings (that is not to say that I got everything for free)
so far after 3 years I am very satisfied...

well I called and they agreed to cancel the $89 fee. They were actually very friendly on the phone. After a build somewhat of a reputation for myself locally I may go through them for some sponsorships but right now just isn't the time and I didn't need the hassle.

So hopefully that money is back in my account soon

Yarik, congrats on being one of the lucky ones.

I'll put a big decal that says "sponsored by: my paycheck"

I'd rather not pay for a discount on parts - paint and custom work really makes the car...

If someone hands me an eclipse dvd unit, I'll put their decal on my car. I'm not paying for parts and have them expect me to put that hideous ..stuff on my car.
