living on campus, help Options

So I am a Resident assistant at my college dorm.

I am looking for ideas for programs. It seems everyone can order pizza and watch a movie, but I wanted to ask you guys if you had been to any programs you really enjoyed, and what you did.

i remeber my ra would set up video game tournaments where the prize was free pizzas or sodas or something. But he had several different tournaments involving different games, bracket systems, and even teams if the game was set up that way. And matches would be planned and scheduled so people could go and watch. The games never took more than an hour and were in the early evening, so your night plans were never ruined.

It allowed people to meet each other since you wanted to know who you were playing or talk to people as you watched someone else play. I thought it was fun and almost all of the guys on my floor took part. There was always at least one game out of the three or four tournament games you could take part in: there was Maden, starcraft, Halo, and Mario Tennis.

I was in an all guys dorm and our RA would co-operate with other all female dorm RA's and try to set up things that would get us meeting people other than on the floor. We also did a couple hookah bar trips where it was cool to hang out and bond. I think a great idea would be to try to integrate something with another RA from another building, so that you'll help everyone meet new people more easily than just throwing them out there.

Other things we've done, poker tournaments, dinner, ultimate frisbee, soccer, and going to other athletic events. Hope this helps

hahaha when i was in the dorms in Plattsburgh State I saw my RA maybe 3 times. The one thing that my building coordinated was a "condom hunt"... yeah to promote safe sex. It was a pain in the ass because i went to go to laundry and there was a condom "hidden" in each machine. They kept popping up all month in random places. It was really stupid.

Our RA attempted once to have some type of "pizza party" in the down stairs lounge, but it was lame so no one went.

you'll have to gamble with chips or something though..don't wanna get into any trouble..

also, try a bikini carwash. . not really, but seriously...before it gets cold out, you could do a barbeque, grill burgers, dogs, etc. then just have some music and some kinda out doorsy games...

also, if the guys are into it, you could try settin up a pick-up type game, such as flag football, small baseball game, or bball...

^that's just me lettin it come out.

g'luck, and congrats on the RA position. do you get free housing, or somet type of pay for that? i know they did @ MTSU...

I get free housing and $75 every two weeks (basically free meal ticket)

You could do what we did for our fundraiser during our Haloween dance.

A bachelor/bachelorette auction. It worked very well. We made about $400.

try a milk chugging competition...whoever can drink and hold down a gallon of milk, wins.

be sure to have a lot of trash cans though...it gets out of control once everyone starts throwing up...but it's funny as hell to watch them spew like milk fountains.
