hmm..those two are different...
How would you hook up one or the other
and
do you have to have power and ground to battery? And then does it go power and ground to the amp?

0g ground first. 2nd power into 0g (or your case 4g from battery), there will be some sparks because of the cap gaining power. Then hook your amp into one of the 3 remaining 3 (+)(4g) connectors left, and then ground you amp into 1 of the 3 (-)(4g) connectors left, and your hooked up. They Cap works as a Distro block, and also combining grounds make for a cleaner grounding system and cleaner sound.

1) You need to charge the capasitor first, by buying some cheap thing (I forgot the name) at RadioShack. Without charging, the cap wont be working at its fullest.
2) Use only the same gauge wires through out the system BY THIS I MEAN: if u use 4 guauge from battery to cap, use 4 gauge from cap to ground. IF u use 8 gauge from cap to to (+) amp use the same gauge to run from cap to amp (-). (it will reduce the resistance so that your wires and amp dont heat up as much). When I was doing my system the first time I ran 4 gauge from cap to (+) amp and 8 gauge from cap to (-) amp. And my amp was getting extremely hot. So I changed the (-) to 4 gauge and now its not as hot anymore.
3) Dont spend extra money on a cap with that stupid voltage meter, you dont need that well unless you are enter your car into shows and need some more show off stuff.

If u are a noob (the person who created the thread not the one who I am replying to) to the car audio go to Crutchfield Help page and read about all the system components and the difference between them. Because, by the way you wronte in your thread it feels like you dont even know that .5 farat cap is made for system's with around 500Watt RMS. And 1.5 farat cap is made for systems with 1500Watt RMS. You should know things like that before you buy a cap cuz the higher tha farat the more $$$ you gonna pay, cuz if you are running a 300Watt RMS system you wont need 1.5 farat cap unless you are going to upgrade you system in the future. But there are some pos. about getting more farats then you need (I got 1.5 farat, cuz I got it off of one of my firends for 40$) which is a pretty good deal. And I am running around 500Watts RMS so there is no way I need all 1.5 farat but hey at least my lights dont dim at all and my battery is as healthy as it was when I bought my car.

Not to mention your alternator. BUT, what niskyspy said is completely correct. Charge the cap, use same gauge both ways etc etc. Only thing is it's spelled Farad not Farat lol
