Please forgive the newbe questions here. I have become very interested in the ST-204 hatch and would like to know:

1. How do you identify a car originally sold in CA. My concern is the more restrictive emissions controls on the car.

2. How to identify if the factory sport suspension option went onto a particular car.

I am looking at southern region 1999 cars so the struts should still be fine given anything like normal driving. I own a clean '94 Vigor but would like something lighter on its feet. My mild tuning plan would include a JDM GT rear strut brace, TRD front strut brace, header, and true cold air intake. That ought to be enough for me...assuming I can find the car I'd like to own wink.gif

Thanks

a true cold air intake is going to be pretty tough to come by on a GT. I don't think anyone makes them, so you are stuck making your own. The same goes for the header. No one really makes them anymore. You can always pay lots of money to have a shop custom make some.. TRD discontinued their strut brace, but C-One and Cusco make some... pricier though.

Well, I guess Toyota needs to update the TDR web site. They still show it. I saw the "how to" on the CAI and think I can handle that (just don't ask me to weld anything smile.gif ). I may be leaning too hard on the parts list but there's a JC Whitney sourced header listed. I'm 34 so most of my racing days are past. I had a VR6 Jetta for the hoolagin stuff when I was a little younger and dumber. I really just like the looks of Celica. I also miss light steering and good handeling. It seems like a reliable and tossable sports coupe but not a hot rod (at least not on my budget).

Dude, you need to stop saying things when you don't know the trueth. Making your own CAI is really easy. I will never buy a CAI, it's just too cheap and easy to make your own. As far as header options for the car, there are a few. If it's an ST, there are a good deal of option with Corolla headers slitely modified. For GT, which I know more about sence I have one, have a good many options. The only one that bolts up is from Hotshot. It costs a lot though, and again, it's just easier to make your own. For strut braces, a 95-99 front will bolt up to the Celica. It has to be the full circle one, and you'll need to drill 2 more holes in it to make it work, but it leaves plenty of choices for you. The rear GT-4 is a great option. I have it, and I love it. You might want to consider suspension tec sway bars as another one of your mods. Everyone who has them, swears by them. If you don't get a header, custom 2.25 inch madril bent piping is a good idea. Check around the forums and see what you find. There's plenty to do if you really want to do it.

I HAVE YOUR CAR!!! HA HA HA. Nah there will be plenty more Alpine Silver 94 GT with sports package. (atleast I am pretty sure it has the SP)

1. How do you identify a car originally sold in CA. My concern is the more restrictive emissions controls on the car.

To tell this there is a sticker on the bottom of the hood that tells you all about the car like the5SFE engine and such and also tell you of the FEDERAL or CALI emissions. Cali emissions loose you 5 Hp and up the cost of parts.

As for the sports package it never came with the ST as far as I know.

First off, I never said it wasn't easy. Please read before you decide to try and go all guru because it isn't impressive. I also said I wasn't sure about the header.. so again.. not impressing anyone. So, sir. I believe you need to pull your head from out your A$$ and (this is the hard part) shut it.

Hey man, I'm not trying to be a jerk about this. I'm just wanting to tell you, you need to be careful what you post, okay? Every noob reads it, and if you give false info, then we have to continue to answer the same questions over and over. Maybe your post wasn't a lie, but I did feel it was missleading. I just tried to clear things up. I'm sorry you took it as me beaning mean with you, I probably came on to strongly, I will be more careful in the future. I hope you can put more thought into your posts, and not snap and say such acting remarks, please.

Great news on the emissions sticker. Thank you. They don't smog test in Alabama anyway so the standard set up would be fine here. I'd just as soon keep the 5 HP as well. I thought there may be a way to identify the sports suspension on a GT by sight. I originally posted "ST-204" but I thought that was a GT. Must have misread something on another page.

Well I have heard all kinds of rumors about the Sports package. The tip on the muffler (if is stock like mine), the rear sway bar, the steering wheel being triangular in the center, the only good way I have heard it take it to the dealer and run the VIN. And yes here in the US a GT is an ST204.

I just bought a REAL cold air intake...so they make them.

also, you say you have a injen cai?---they don't make them for the celica?...so it would have to be a short ram?

-btw, please keep any crude comments to yourself...lets set a good example to fellow 6gcers!

Crud. confused.gif The nice folks at TRD_Help@Toyota.com just confirmed that the TRD front brace is no longer sold. They still show it on the web site but it's just a tease. 95CelicaST called it.

What kind of cold air intake did you buy snapshot?

The reason I ask all of these questions is that I bought my Vigor after having owned a MKIII VR6 Jetta. There were endless tuning options for that car so I got spoiled. The Vigor on the other hand, is almost completely without tuner support. All I could find was a K&N drop in, short-shift kit, ATE Super Blue brake fluid, and a "tune-a-car" style cat replacement.

#1)dont' buy an intake.....go by URBANDORK's how to its the best bang for you buck...snapshot wasted his 140$

#2 )hotshot makes a 5sfe header and it will work but it is for an mr2 i believe and the angle is wrong a custom piece will be needed (easily made by your local exhaust shop)

#3) TRD is discontinued your options are JSPEED, CUSCO or DODGE neon 95-99 FULL RING

#4) you have the same suspension the rest of us in the USA have there is no sport suspension over here ALTHOUGH there is a "super strut" suspension in europe and asia it will not work for your car, EIBACH, H&R, INTRAX, GROUND CONTROL, TIEN are all good suspension companies for coils and springs.....koni, bilstein and KYB are good for struts....suspension techniques has your sway bars

#5) a GT4 rear strut brace can be bought via your local dealership or as stated above cusco or jspeed can supply one as well

#6) go custom exhaust if you want one(local shop can do a catback for ruffly 300$ or around there)

#7) WOOT JETTA OWNER.....(i have a MKiv 1.8T)

nownow...a lot of people have criticized me for buying a cold air intake (i.e. playr158)...but i did not have the time to make a homemade one...got my plate full with school. So here is the ebay item number (just copy/paste it into the ebay search thing at the top left...):

7993563772

--it's a $105 item--but like $20 s&h fee....i just received mine today, and am fixing to install it in the next 2-3 days (i can post a pic if you want)

---i would suggest buying it b/c you have to have a hole for you temp sensor...and another male hole for a hose that connects up to you engine...but you do what fits best into your life... wink.gif
