I was looking into purchasing some kyb sturts and either sportline or TRD lowering springs, my original plan was to buy stock matrix rims, 16" oppose to my stock 15" celica GT rims. But im having trouble finding matrix rims, either the newer style (04+) or the older (00-03). I was just wondering how the ride would be with the stock 15's and with the car sitting an inch to and inch and a half lower. Would it be alot bumpier (if thats even a word) I know with the droped suspension it will stiffen up, but would it be better to get larger rims and tires????
Thoughts? Opinions? Maybe some hits on matrix rims? Thanks -------------------- Kawi Love |

the larger rim will create a bumpier ride..why you ask?
because when you up the rims size you must decrease the tire sidewall size. As you get smaller and smaller sidewalls the ability of the rubber to absorb bumps in the road gets smaller and smaller so i guess it would be like 15s + drop = reasonably smooth 18s + drop = slightly bumpy |

Oh dang, I can't believe your actually going to lower it with stock rims? That's just dumb. No one should ever do that. It would look and ride like crap. You need to go out and get you at least a set of 17s for that, man. If you can't afford it or need extra cash, hit me up because I'd like to buy your stock wheels. lol

Hey man, it was a joke. I just want his wheels, that why I said that. Sarcasum isn't easily read on here though. I should have typed a j/k thing or something. Devilden, if I were you, I would actually keep the stock wheels and tires. Pressure is right in what he says, the stock wheels will keep it running softer. If you want to get the effect of having bigger wheels, you can go with a 205/50, or 205/45 profile next time you change your tires. This may not be the best thing visually for filling fender wells, but it is the best thing for performance. Having the stock 15 instead of 17's, and especially with a little lower profile, will help acceleration, braking, and handling. I doubt I'll ever put anything bigger than a 16 on my Celica. I guess I may do a lightwieght 17 if I get in some serious tarmac racing. I doubt I'll ever do that though. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

Lowering plus using a lower-profile tire -- car is lower, wheel gap is about the same.
The tire sizes you suggested would put his speedometre seriously out of whack, BTW. The 205/50 would read 3.48% too fast, and the 205/45 would read 7.24% too fast. Plus there's the issue of brake performance -- everything is calibrated to a 23.87" overall diametre. Admittedly, using a smaller tire would improve acceleration, since it would be easier to spin up, though the rotating weight would likely be as great or greater due to the additional width. All the handling benefits, however, of a shorter sidewall can be obtained with a higher speed rating. The whole point of reducing the sidewall profile is to reduce the flex of the rubber that slows the response between the wheel moving and that force being transmitted to the ground. A stiffer sidewall, which is what distinguishes tires with high speed ratings, would have much the same effect without the negative effects of a smaller than appropriate tire. |

I have a 1.75" drop with stock rims, and I can say that I will never put different rims on it, because the ride thrashes me already.

ok so what after market rims would u suggest. Im definatly keeping the Stock rims for the winter time, but if i can get aftermarket rims for like $500, then id get them. Im looking for like 16's...and maybe, probally not cuz ny streets blow, 17's. i know that $500 isnt alot, but even some factory rims from toyota, ie matrix/camry or soemthing. I know the 05 and 06 matrix have the same bolt pattern as the 6gc. I forget at the moment what it is....i wanna say 100x5 but dont quote me. (im a noob) any way. what toyota factory rims or aftermarket rims, 16", would u buy if u had $500-$700 for a set. (no tires)

on stock wheels are just perfectly fine. you could barley feel the difference.
talking about which wheel to get. i wouldn't spend time looking on ebay. just go buy a good set on tirerack or wheelspace or whatever its called. definetly better in my opinion. -------------------- PROJECT 6TH GEN
