I have just a head unit in my car and I would like just a little bit more of a full sound. I listen to all kinds of music and talk radio and I don't really want or need anything powerful, expensive or thumping. What do you guys think of self-powered subs? Which one would you get?

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

This is what I got, it has everything you need sans RCA's. Those can be found for as little as 10 bucks. It is plenty bass for me, and sometimes I like to crank it up. It's the perfect thing for someone that's just looking for that "complete" sound, with the ability to bump if need be.

If u never had a sub before and u get this Kenwood thing, it will last you for about 6 month and you will want to upgrade to a more powerful system. When I was getting my first SUB all I wanted is a low powerful system that has a lil bass and now I ended up buying a 1200Watt RMS amp and JLW6. So dude buy that kenwood if you are only 100% sure that you will never want to upgrade. And if you are only 99% sure then save up and go all the way out because you will save $$$ like that instead of upgrading each little part.
Here's what I think you should buy:
JBL bp1200.1 AMP = 199$
Cap = 50$
And some sub that can handle the power, if ur looking for cheap go with power acoustiks = 180$
And believe me its worth it!!! smile.gif

i got a koss basstube for my celi when i first got her, paid $55 for it from my work, 3 wires, and the RCA's and she had a good punch to her. Not as much as my 10" pioneer, but still had a good punch. it was 300watt on a 8" vented tube. They apparently stopped making them, but it was still good though.

i've always like the bazooka tube systems. They look OEM so you can hide it in your trunk and your friend will never know.

For the most part, self-powered subs are pretty crappy to begin with... but if you must go with a self-powered sub, i'd say go with kicker... I forget what model it was but I started with a 8 " kicker self-powered sub and I mean, its okay ... But i honestly would go for like a 10 inch Alpine type S if you looking for something crisp with not to much bass. (AND CHEAPPPY)
