Well I was hoping to bring my Celica to Ohio so that my Uncle could build me a custom sub box and help reorganize my air suspension... but an hour on our trip... The engine just cut off... So i pulled it over and looked under the hood... Had some antifreeze coming out of the overflow tank and the engine was hot.. However the needle read normal temp... So once the engine cooled... we checked the radiator and it was pretty much full :-( So then we started it up and heard a knocking from under the valve cover... Checked the oil... that was fine... So i had to tow it back to NC to a shop... Haven't heard what's wrong with it yet...

Wow, sounds expensive. If you need a new engine, and have the means, then an upgrade would be smart. 3S-GTE anyone?

Well that was my plan when the engine did die... but it depends on how much damage was done... Cuz i really can't afford the 2000 to do a swap...
Right now the current thinking is that the water pump went bad and it overheated the engine and blew the head gasket... We did just change the timing belt about 1 week ago and did not change the water pump like most places suggested.... -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

Sorry to hear all that. I just got my second timing belt change yesterday at 112K (kind of early, but my Toyota dealer was also "fixing" an oil leak and replaced several front engine seals and the drive belts), and claimed that the timing belt needed done too b/c the oil leak had created such a mess (or something). I am a little suspect. As far as the water pump goes, the replacement is not on their routine maintenance pamphlet, so I am wondering why, now that you mention it? When have people here replaced their water pumps?

Well... idk if you still have the celica or not... and if its easy to remove your sub system.. .but my uncle can't build me my custom box without the trunk to build it around... So... idk if you can... but maybe we can borrow your trunk for 2 to 3 days so my uncle and measure and build my custom box.. as far as the engine goes... I guess now i'm considering either trying to buy a 3sgte engine and finding someone to install it and figure out how much that will all cost..... -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

*update*... Gonna tow the car home... have my friend and I tear the engine apart and fix whatever's wrong... if the engine is too far gone... we'll just get another cheap one and toss it in...
I so miss my car... I don't know how you guys can live without yours while doing major swaps or work on them. -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207
