Im gonna get a custom exhaust made up for my car and i'm looking for a muffler. Im thinking of the HKS muffler but i've been told its pretty loud.
Anybody have on their car... whats it sound like? Is it Cali Safe? What size piping should i use on a stock motor? This post has been edited by Davesceli: Jan 8, 2006 - 2:14 AM |

Nothing is Cali safe. Any mods are illegal. If you must get one, and I would if I were you, go with Megan Racing mufflers. They sound nice, and they don't cost an arm and a leg.

Are you joking? No, this was my understanding. Am I wrong? EDIT: I tried searching for it, I know I've seen on Cali's Police website how modifications are illegal. It's not everything, but it seems really close to it. It's just engine wise. I haven't heard that bodykits and stickers and what not are illegal. I should have made that more clear. Ive got the HKS HI-Power muffler w/ 2.5 cat back. With having the hatchback its really loud inside the car, but outside its not very loud at all, no problems with cops yet. At Idle its got a nice rumble too.

if your looking for a muffler thats not too loud, the HKS TIis not what you want. at anything other than idle, that thing is LOUD.

Im not really worried about loudness, (still a concern) but, most importantly, i just don't want a ricer sound.

Too much money for a muffler for the 5SFE....Probably the reason Jeffs is so loud is because its 3" turbo back, so it really screams at the high RPM's. If you got yourself one that is around 2 1/4" or so, it would probably sound really nice and not too loud, but far too much money if your running a GT motor in my opinion. I would do what everyone else said and get yourself a reasonably priced Magnaflow and have a shop mate up some 2 1/4" piping for you.
I bought a GReddy SP1 off a member recently and I love it. Its not loud at all, but sounds fantastic when you get on the throttle. Lets me still hear my music and keep my sanity on long highway trips, and doesn't draw unwanted attention from the cops....yet you can still hear it and feel an improvement in response. I would assume that a Magnaflow setup would be just as good. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |
